According to Los Angeles ESPN 710 radio host and Lakers broadcaster John Ireland, the Kings will be "forced" to move the franchise out of Sacramento by the NBA.

"The people I have talked to in the NBA have told me that the Kings are going to be forced to move," he said on-air Thursday, according to Sports By Brooks. "They are not, especially in that political climate, going to get a new arena. No matter what the mayor says, no matter what the Maloofs say. Most of the people close to the team have told me they will try everything humanly possible to stay in Sacramento but that it's not in the cards.

"I don't know if Anaheim would happen, that would put three teams within 50 miles of each other, highly unlikely. But Kansas City has a new Anschutz (managed) arena, that's a very likely possibility ... and Seattle would like to get the Sonics back. You're looking at maybe 3-5 more seasons in Sacramento and then after they're going to have to find a place to play."

well that would allow the Maloofs to leave but also "keep there word" about trying to stay in Sacramento.

Honesty in my personal opinion THERE IS NO NEW ARENA COMING! there are zero signs that an arena is on the way... there is NOOOO money in sacramento and no money to be made in sacramento.... THE "BEST FANS IN THE NBA" PUT THE NAIL IN THE KINGS COFFIN THEMSELVES!!! after the attendance avg from last year, NO ONE is getting excited about investing 500+ million to build the Kings a new arena.

I totally agree with this guy in that in 3-5 years the Kings are gone... not to be a downer but Sacramento is a terrible place for a sports team to be right now... one more thing when that bill was voted down by the citizens of sacramento that was to fund or help fund a new arena... that too was a turning point for the arena...

I listened to that blurb from Ireland. I will say that he's pretty well connected but when he says "NBA people", he doesn't mean people who work for the league. He's talking about media and front office people for individual teams, mostly the Lakers and Clippers, who give their opinions and it's no different then what we speculate on here. Financing will be tough but everyone is doing their best to find a solution.

But at the end of the day, let's not confuse what he was saying. It's a matter of semantics. When he says "forced", he means that all options have been worn out and there's no other choice but to move. The league is completely behind Sacramento on this. They won't force them to leave at all.

1) Nothing in the Ireland quote as given above actually indicates that the "forcing" would be done by the NBA. The more logical reading of the quote would attribute the "forcing" to the economic climate.

2) This comes from a radio guy who works in a rival media market claiming anonymous "sources" spreading a vague rumor about something that might happen in 3-5 years.

3) The sky is falling, the sky is falling, is falling the sky.

3a) Might you want to change your user name to "TheBoyWhoCriedWolf"? It seems to me that you are the one to start every single "doom and gloom, the Kings are leaving Sacramento" thread.

heres a FACT... KINGS ATTENDANCE LAST YEAR.... 30th... worst in the NBA
FACT... NO TICKETS SOLD = NO INTEREST FROM INVESTORS
FACT... IF WE RANK DEAD LAST AGAIN ITS OVER
FACT... ALL SIGNS INDICATE THAT WILL BE THE CASE AGAIN
FACT... THE CITIZENS OF SACRAMENTO ALREADY VOTED NO GO
WITH AN ARENA WHEN THEY HAD THE CHANCE TO KEEP
THE TEAM
FACT... THE BEST FANS IN THE NBA ARE REALLY JUST BANDWAGON
FANS, THAT ONLY SHOW UP WHEN THEY'RE ONE OF THE
BEST TEAMS IN THE NBA
FACT... SACRAMENTO HAS NO MONEY
FACT... SACRAMENTO IS NOT LA/SOUTH BEACH/SAN DIEGO/SAN FRAN... OR A REALLY AWESOME PLACE TO
BE RIGHT NOW WITH A BIG MARKET

the kings are not getting a new arena... the NBA will force the Kings out like for the same reasons the NCAA tournament has stopped coming to arco... its a piece of junk... i live in so cal. and flew to sacramento to watch a game and arco is the worst arena i've been to ever... its terrible... and the NBA will soon say its not up to par with all the other teams arenas.

honestly the only thing that could save this team is if we win 40 or more games and make the playoffs either this year or the next... but its almost a lock that it wont happen this year or next.

so heres another FACT... if the Kings are at the bottom of the league in attendance again this year and next the KINGS ARE GONE...

im a kings fans not a sacramento fan... and i will support the kings where ever they go... but as an outsider looking in... its just so obvious that the Kings are leaving... everyone else knows it.

Your comments are pretty meaningless, considering you don't even live in the Sacramento area and yet claim to have vast knowledge of the city and our fans. The "facts" you've presented above are not facts. You might want to check the definition of the word.

My first instinct was to just close this thread because of the total lack of anything of value. But, on second thought, I decided to change the title to more accurately reflect the contents. I think it will die a quick death as there's simply nothing of substance here.

Wow you really think that a team that wins 17 games is going to be anything other than last? Atlanta is a nice city but tickets didn't sell until they got something to be excited about a few years ago. Miami had a hard time selling tickets in 2007 or whatever year that was when they won like 15 games, and that's freaking Miami. Newsflash dude: people don't want to pay to watch a team that doesn't hustle, doesn't make exciting plays, doesn't play defense, and gets blown out every other night. It doesn't matter which market you're in unless it's LA or NY, you aint selling tix with a team that wins 17 games. Hopefully things are different this year, we win atleast 30 or something, a good team is on the horizon, fans start to come back, you chill out, and we realize we need a new arena. Yeah Sac doesn't have any money at the moment, but KJ realizes that no new arena just makes that problem worse because there is no money coming from things like the NCAA tournement, which would've been about 6 million dollars for the area(according to him). Am I saying something is going to get done for sure? No. This radio guy from LA might have put it like that but if you look at what he said, he basically said that if nothing works(and he doesn't think it will and he's a lakers guy so he probably doesn't want it to) than they eventually will move. Duh, we already knew that. The point is we need something to work, and if things get better that has a chance of happening.

You hadn't noticed?

I think the most telling bit from that comment is that sactownfan lives in Southern California, and would support the Kings no matter where they move. Under those conditions, the BEST thing that could possibly happen from sactownfan's point of view would be for the Kings to move to Anaheim. Sactownfan has a vested interest in the Kings actually moving. No wonder he talks about it so much.

dont take anything that john ireland says seriously... he is an idiot. laker fans dont even care about what he says. if you sacramento native kings fans get irritated by sacbee writers or random kings commentators than ireland is even worse... he is a waste of time on a level that only stu jackson can match. john ireland is like bill walton when he's not under the influence of... colorful hawiian shirts... he is useless... he might as well work for the clippers.

the team might move or they might not... its 50/50 until its 100%.

Seriously bro you and anyone else that thinks im pro moving the kings anywhere else, need to shut the hell up... you have nothing other than i strongly believe that the Kings are gone (along with everyone else in the basketball world), and i live in so cal to make your judgments that i want them to move and move to so cal???

thats freak'n retarded... yes i've mentioned Anaheim once or twice, (so has everyone else in the basketball world) and you know what if they moved to Anaheim im being totally honest in that as a kings fan having the kings move 20mins away wouldn't have me crying... but does that mean I WANT THEM TO MOVE????!!!!

so stupid... yes i know the lakers announcers are lame i see them all the time... but what he said is similar to what everyone else is saying... IF COLLEGE BASKETBALL CANT BE PLAYED IN ARCO ANYMORE WHAT DOES DAVID STERN THINK??? especially if there's people lining up to pay the Maloofs ransom?

The Maloofs want everything without paying for it... and the city doesn't wanna pay for anything... AND even if it did IT DOESN'T HAVE THE MONEY NOW!!!

look the city voted the Maloofs down, then our team fell apart (big ouch) then we went into this failed rail yard thing, then this expo thing that went on forever.... then the economy fell apart (which was the biggest hit to the arena), then we were worst in the league in attendance, and even this expo thing is failing to gain any steam... HAVE ANY OF YOU SEEN THE PLANS FOR IT??? its a joke! no one will invest all that money right now or anytime in the near future...

the sky is falling... because the sky is falling ???

i look at it like this and there both long shots...

Kevin Johnson was a big step in right direction... and with his sell out plans and him fighting to keep the kings it gives you a shot...

and the other is.... if this team can make the playoffs and win 40+ games in the next 1-3 years it could reenergize sacramento again that would result in sellouts and tickets sales which in turn would entice investors to get on board...

but in the end i just dont see it working out... sorry thats my opinion, and the purpose of all these arena threads is to discuss the neg. with the pos so feel free to fire back with all your positive Arena news.... LOL!....

One more comment like that and you're not going to be posting here for a while. Period.
