Mark Kreidler: Wanna play guard for a few minutes?

Good to be with you. I almost didn't make it. My tryout with the Kings went a little longer than expected...
• And now this brief community service announcement from Mark McGwire: Kids, don't do steroids. But if you do, don't admit it. In fact, deny it loudly and continuously. Unless you are asked to do so under oath. Then stonewall. Because, in the end, if no one has a positive test on you, then you will always have plausible deniability. Now go get 'em, Little Leaguers!
• McGwire's chances for the Hall of Fame? Roughly 100 percent in favor, actually. He'll be "punished" by perhaps being denied a first-ballot entry by voters, which is the way for some of them to admit they should have seen McGwire's "supplement" use for what it was. (Myself? I'm happy to have until 2007, McGwire's first year of eligibility, to decide on my vote. An awful lot can happen in two years, and the guess here is, most of it will.)
• Kimberly Bell, who says she dated Barry Bonds on the side for nine years through the end of his first marriage and well into his current one, claims Bonds told her way back in 2000 that he was using steroids. So, just to recap: Woman dating married man is shocked to discover that he ... cheats.
