New York Daily News - Knicks GM Isiah Thomas says he is not actively pursing deals for free agents, but, according to sources, the Knicks have had conversations with Jeffries' agent, Andy Miller, in recent days as negotiations between Jeffries and the Wizards have stalled.

Jeffries is considering accepting Washington's one-year qualifying offer for approximately $3 million, which would make him an unrestricted free agent next summer.

The Knicks can offer Jeffries their mid-level exception, starting at approximately $5.2 million. The Knicks are reluctant to add salary, but the 6-11 Jeffries, who can play four positions, would give the team a versatile player who is regarded as a strong defender. The 24-year-old Jeffries averaged 6.4 points and 4.9 rebounds in 77 games last season.

The Knicks' interest in Jeffries suggests that Thomas will not match the three-year, $7 million offer Jackie Butler received from the San Antonio Spurs . The Knicks have until tomorrow to decide on Butler's fate. By allowing Butler to leave, the Knicks would have one roster spot available.

Knicks are definitely gathering some defensive/hustle/versatile role players to compliment and mix with the offensive players.

Balkman/Collins, who both have showed good things and played well in the summer league. Which seemingly should translate over to the NBA... I liked Collins in college, and didn't know much about Balkman, was surprised at the pick like most everyone else, but I've come to dig Balkman.

Jefferies is similar to Balkman only taller. Can guard and play mutiple positions effectively, athletic, effective without the ball, and can handle the ball. They should get him.

Nate Robinson has looked nice at PG in the SL, sounds confident about what he needs to do. Was playing with a handful of his team-mates as well.

He can play point guard, too... also, he can coach... he can also work the scoreboard, referee, sell cotton candy in the stands, and he is an outstanding play-by-play guy (he does some color commentating, but it still needs some work).

Well, if you've watched a significant amount of wizard games or read a significant amount of boxscores, over the last two seasons, you'd know that. The games and boxscores, they do not lie.

Jefferies started and played SG numerous times for the Wiz, ditto SF, ditto PF, and think he can play PG because of his ball-handling skills. Can and has played C when going small because of his height and length.

So, 4 or 5 actually.

Well, he's not really an offensive player, he's an athletic hustle defensive player (hence why I compared him to Balkman in their skills). So, in his case, and in the situations for a couple positions (going small), he does. If he didn't, why would he kept getting put at numerous positions several times over the last two seasons? Because of the aforementioned.

he might as well play five positions... he can probably play center at times, he is after all 6'11...

I don't know if he's played PG, but he's a good ball handler. I know he's played center sometimes when going small though.

I like Jeffries as a Mr. Intangible guy. Uniquely versatile player -- can match him up anywhere and he disrupt players of all sizes like a Rodman used to do.

That said, he is (obviously) NOT a Dennis Rodman, and he's still a 6pt 5reb man looking for a contract as big as the one Bonzi has been offered. He could be an x-factor for a lot of teams, but that's a lot of cash for a guy who can't do any of the heavy lifting.

Remember the name, Andray Blatche. This guy is the real deal. I saw him a little bit last year and his ball handling skills are amazing for a big man.
