Kingfans Scouting Report #1:

Enes Kanter: A 6'10.75", 259 pound, C/Pf. Since Kanter hasn't played for over a year, it might be informative to have a little history lesson. To see how he got from there to here. He first came on the scene when he signed to play for team Fenerbahce in Turkey. He was 16 years old, and he only played in 4 games for very limited minutes. But he made NBA scouts stand up and take notice in 2009 when he played for the Turkish national team in the FIBA under 18 championships. He led his team to a bronze medal, averaging 18.6 PPG, and 16.4 RPG. He was voted MVP of the tournament.

After the tournament he was offered a multimillion euro/dollar contract for five years by a professional Turkish team. He turned down the offer in favor of playing in the NCAA and then hopefully the NBA. It made him very unpopular in Turkey. He originally commited to play for Washington, but later recanted and eventually signed a letter of intent with Kentucky. Prior to that, he made a name for himself when he played in the Nike Hoop summit game. An all star game for senior highschoolers. A game he almost withdrew from because of a back injury. But he did play, and scored 34 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in just 22 minutes of playing time. And he did a lot of his damage against Jared Sullinger, the highly touted PF commited to Ohio St. I saw the game, and Sullinger was no match for Kanter, bad back and all.

Unfortunately, the NCAA decided to investigate his time, at age 16 when he played for team Fenerbahce. While he never actually recieved a salary, he did recieve benefits for housing, food etc. The NCAA ruled that he had recieved 33 thousand dollars, of which around 20 thousand was used to pay for his schooling. His parents, who said that they wern't aware that it was a violation, offered to repay the 20 thousand. However, the NCAA, with its infinite wisdom, and of course their iron fist, said no.

So in essence, the Nike Summit game was the last orginized game that Kanter played in, well over a year ago. Kentucky did go through an appeal process that dragged on for some time, and he was allowed to practice with the Kentucky team during that time. When he arrived in the US he didn't speak any english, and in the two years he's been here, he now almost speaks it fluently. According to Calipari, Kentucky's headcoach, Kanter is a very dedicated hard worker, with a great attitude. As for his abilities, I can only comment on the one game I saw, and although it was basicly an all star game, he was impressive. Especially when you consider he was playing with some sort of back injury, which he admits, made him entirely, a below the rim player in that game.

He's very good in the post, with a variety of moves and shots. He's strong, and appears to like contact. He's a very good rebounder. What makes him interesting is his ability to move away from the basket where he's extremely comfortable shooting the ball out to 18 or more feet. To be honest, he reminds me of Cousins quite a bit. He's a good passer, and handles the ball well for a guy his size. At the combine, his body fat was at 5.9 percent, so he hasn't been hanging out at Burger King. In one of his workout videos, he looked fairly quick on his feet, and seem to have pretty good hops. I can't comment on his defense, since little is played in all star games, and even if it were, how much of it might have been affected by his bad back.

He's projected to go somewhere in the top 5 or 6 spots in the draft. Just out of reach from the Kings. There's always a slight chance he could slide, since he did have a knee problem. But it was only tendinitis of the knee, and by all accounts, nothing career threatening. So I doubt the Kings will have a chance to draft him, but if he were to slide, I wouldn't let him slide past us. He's too talented to pass on, whether we need him or not.

Kingfans Scouting Report #2:

Enes Kanter: 19 years old, 6'11", 260lbs, Turkey

Enes is a big-time prospect when looking at the history of European bigmen. In what will be a breath of fresh air for those who criticize Europeans bigs for being soft, Enes thrives on physicality in the paint. Enes throws his weight around, and attacks the glass with hunger. He has a Kevin Love type attitude when it comes to rebounding, and based on his rebounding numbers in Europe, had he played in college would have rivaled Cousins as one of the best rebounders college basketball has seen in years.

It's tough to be sure how Kanters game will translate to the NBA, but one thing is clear, and that is that Kanter has a very versatile offensive game. He has a very fluid jumper out to about 20ft, and is very comfortable either facing up or pumpfaking and taking it to the rim. He is also a very good passer, and has drawn comparisons to Vlade and Bogut in that area. Should be comfortable operating out of the high-post.

Kanter also has a versatile post game, filled with pumpfakes, dropsteps, baby hooks, and turnaround jumpers. While he will never be known for his athleticism, he's no slouch on that end either. I think you're looking at P Gasol/Duncan type athleticism. Definitely not to be confused with an Amare or Griffin, but quick enough to take other 4's and 5's off the dribble, very fluid, and could probably guard most 4's away from the basket(except Dirk, but who can?).

Will excel on the boards and scoring before he will on defense. There will be an adjustment period. But given his strength, size, physical nature, and attitude he plays with I see him becoming an above average defender. Decent shot blocker as well.

It's tough to find a comparison for Kanter. I've heard P Gasol, Duncan, Love, Garnett, R Wallace and Vlade. While he's more like some than others, the one constant is the versatility. He passes similar to Vlade/Bogut. He rebounds like Love/Noah. He has the smooth jumper Cousins has, maybe not as consistent, but similar to a young Gasol, where it has to be honored. He has a wide range of moves in the post, everything from turnarounds to lefty hooks. I would say best case scenario, he is P Gasol with Garnetts/Loves attitude on the glass. Worst case, with all due respect, Brad Miller. Enes has all star talent, and there is more of a chance he plays in an all star game than there is he doesn't.

Numbers in prime: 18-22ppg, 9.5-11rpg, 2.5-3.5asp, 1.5-2bpg
