[Game] Kings v. Knicks - 12/9/16 - 7:30PT/10:30ET

3 of those teams we lost to with a fully healthy squad (by very small margins) nothing misleading about it shame on the Grizzlies being undermanned and getting carried to wins by a center anything to discredit another big man playing well.

Based on talent the Grizz should not have won a single one
We lost some of those on the road by similarly small margins. A couple shots in either direction and apparently gasol and Memphis would need to blow it up while cuz would be a hero.

Also, Memphis barely beat lakers at home without Russell, young or nance. The barely beat the Pelicans without holiday, Cunningham or Moore. They barely beat the 76s at home without embiid, Covington or okafor. Again, context matters.

Exactly because Marc Gasol/Memphis are clutch and winning with less talent while the Kings/Cousins/Rudy are not and have chocked for years that's basketball in general you win or loss but I guess if you count moral victories we are ahead of Memphis.

Memphis with all those injuries are not suppose to beat any of those teams aside from Philly who was also ravaged by injury.

They beat Portland who had Aminu back (we lost without him) and fully healthy and the Magic easily beat us and have recently been playing there best basketball of the year when they lost to the Grizz winning 3 of 4 prior to tonight.

They're all three point losses.

This is a mediocre team with a poor front office wasting the prime of a very talented big man.
What happens when you hire a GM because he is a former player, not because he is a good GM candidate. Vlade put together this crap roster because he is clueless. The only PDA holdovers are Collison and McLemore so now it falls on him. Hopefully people are starting to see the light before Vlade has a couple more off-seasons to dig this franchise deeper in a hole. His draft decisions are horrible and well, free agency, i don't even have to answer that. What is Vivek thinking???? He has to be sitting back thinking what is happening here

Not sure what was worse. The constant ownage on the boards by the Knicks or the Kings lacking the ability to penetrate over and over. Cousins is the big man right? Why did he go 0-6 from 3. If you watched the game, it was the whole team trying to shoot 3s and they kept failing. It was really tough to watch. Or maybe it was the lazy endings to quarters that made this game suck.

And porzingis was owning the Kings. This was a guy in the same draft as WCS. Nothing against WCS but why can't we make a good draft pick? Even Justise Winslow would have been a better pick. Anything.

Rudy just isn't any good either and I wish he could turn things around, seems like a nice guy, but it will never happen.
To be fair, word before the draft was that Vlade was going for Porzingis if he fell. Phil Jackson just got his filthy fingers on him first.

Also, Vlade is by no means perfect, but those expecting him to fix this roster in a couple offseasons need to check their expectations.

The guy had/has almost zero assets for trading. We want to hold on to Cuz. Nobody is going to offer us anything great for Rudy, he's fools gold and GMs know it.

DC? Ben? What are we going to get for those guys?

No FAs want to come here, we got rid of the Maloofs, but Vivek has just been throwing more tires on the dumpster fire opinion of this franchise around the league.

Vlade got us a good coach and he has a plan (grit n grind), just having a cohesive vision puts him head and shoulders against such luminaries as PDA and late career Petrie.

Now... as to your point on the draft...

*removes Homer glasses*

... I absolutely agree with you that Vlade needs to draft better. THATS how we get out of the mire. We need to hit on draft picks. We need some dang scouts. WCS is beyond disappointing.

Kind of a misleading 5-0. 4 of those games at home and their opponents are Portland, philly, lakers, Orlando and New Orleans.

Total margin of victory against that at-home weak competition: 13 points
It still counts as a win no matter how much the margin is. The Grizzlies have a bunch of injuries so it's absurd to think they should wipe the floor with those teams who on any given night can beat you with their talent.

If the Kings were missing Gay, Collison and Temple and beat those same teams by the same margin at home, do you think the perspective of the team would be:

1) The Kings are playing tough despite their injuries and are winning no matter how close
2) The Kings are playing against an inferior opponent and even with the injuries should be blowing these teams outs

Honest answer on this board? 1. Oh, and something about a tough schedule too.

Why do people keep calling this team grit and grind? We're not grit and grind we're just mediocre. I guess veteran players who don't score much but at least expend effort on defense are defensive role-players by default but Temple is the only guy (besides Cousins) who's even above average defensively. We still have more in common with last year's flying circus act than the actual grit and grind blueprint created by Memphis. If we really want to be grit and grind we should start Temple at SG and find a defensive specialist to replace Rudy. Then we need to find an immovable object of a bigman to lock down the paint and a PG who'll get right up in the face of their opponent and pester them the whole game. The grind would refer to an offense that mostly scores 2 points at a time and earns a good chunk of them at the free throw line. The grit would refer to the relentless defensive pressure that allows them to stay in games anyway against even the most 3pt happy of run and gun teams. I'd love to see this team commit to bringing in defensive personnel at multiple positions but it hasn't happened yet.

I wouldn't say he is "out of shape" but he has been leaner in the past. Take a look at this highlight video from 9-5 Malone era. He looked leaner than he does right now and was quicker and more explosive under the basket. I still say that stretch pre viral-meningitis was the best basketball Cousins has played for the franchise. He was a force on both ends.
God, I loved watching that team take it to the league that brief moment in time.

Demarcus was just a different player then.
He's hardly ever in the paint anymore. If he played like that now, he'd not only get more fouls called for him but he'd really open up the outside for shooters.
He's too tricksy with his game now IMO and he really needs to crash the boards more. He's way too good of offensive rebounder (and those hands!) to give up all those opportunities just to open up the lane for his and other guys' drives.

Say what you will about Jason Thompson but he and Cousins controlled the boards practically every night. Rebounding has been atrocious this year. Even with how mediocre we've been for years, rebounding was always something that was a strength.

If by that you mean "Open season on everyone not named Cousins" then yes.
Yeah, that should do the trick. Everyone's lining up for all the crap they have not named cousins. Time to accept that the maybe the only real way to improve this team and set them up for long term success is to trade their best player. Sucks and seems contradictory, but I don't see how this team can improve and despite what other people say, this team is not trending upwards

Good post. This team isn't improving. As I have said before, there is no talent outside of Cousins and Gay. I have zero faith Vlade can get a trade done.

I agree with your post for the most part but you made one gigantic blunder Mike Malone was the GOAT 9-6 coach not 9-5

Does the GSW beatdown count since they were without Andre Igoudola and the Memphis Grizzlies were playing at home I guess if you factor those two things in than the win is a bit misleading........
