KINGS TV in the EAST COAST!

ok, i really think i have to share this with you guys.

i have been out for the longest time cause our computer hasn't been working for months now and we just moved so the computer is down on my mom's priority list.

anyway, we just switched to DirecTV and as usual i bought their sports package which includes NBATV, YES network (nets games), MSG (knicks games), FSN, etc.

while channel surfing one time, i was surprised to see that there was a replay of the kings vs jazz game. i thought for sure i wasn't gonna be able to see it but I DID! the channel (CSNW) is available to me! i watched the house party after the game and i got to see all the interviews and stuff. you can even see sacramento comercials. if you look at the information on the channel, it says it was for kings, monarchs, etc. so i definitely hit jackpot with this one! just thought some of you would like to know about it.

i live in NJ, by the way. it may or may not work for everyone but wow, this is really amazing! i'm so happy!

**i'm sorry if someone already brought this up. as i said, i've been out for a while and my internet use is very limited so i can't look up a million posts behind.

Isn't it great how something like that can make your day?! :)

CSNW is available fora everyone through Directv and Dish network if you subscribe to their sports packages (included for free if you are in Sacramento area). Live games will be blacked out, but everything else (including replays) should be available.

LMM, I am so happy to see you. And, glad you can at least watch the replays. :)

Damn; now I'm going to have to consider switching to DishNetwork. Won't do it until after the season, though... do you still have to pay extra for network channels?

Usually local channels are an extra $4.95/mo. You can get individual network feeds out of LA or NYC (ABC, NBC, CBS) for a nominal fee per month if your local channels package doesn't carry a particular network.

As for CSW, it should be part of their regional sports net packages, which is probably around $11.95/mo or so. That should net you most of the NBA games, and all of the Kings games that are on Comcast.

This is for DirecTV, I imagine DishNet is similar...

Be Careful!!

Sometimes they black out the games, sometimes they black out the replays, and sometimes they don't. Celebrate when you get to see something, but please don't raise your expectations. :)

Up until a couple games ago, DirecTV forgot to black out Kings games on CSNW (ch 656). It was great! But then they blacked out the Knicks game (not such a bad thing ;)). They also blacked out the Kings-Jazz game and the last 20 minutes of the replay. The same thing happened last year (starting with the great win over the Spurs where both the game and the replay were blacked out :().

So be careful. Do not switch your carrier to get Kings games if you don't live within the Kings area, unless all else is pretty much equal. The games will most often be blacked out and the replays will also be blacked out some of the time.

Very good advice!

While the CSNW programming might be available everywhere as part of the sports package on satellite (both DirecTV and DishNetwork have comparable offerings), the actual games themselves are not supposed to be broadcast outside of the Kings assigned area. That's what League Pass is for and the NBA gets pretty anal about the whole thing. Since the CSNW was a new addition last year, they're still working out some of the kinks but there's not going to be an easy way for those of you who live away from California to get Kings games on a regular basis unless you pay for LP.

So, as was said before, consider yourself lucky if you do get the actual games but don't go making any changes to your TV broadcast provider in the hopes you'll be able to exploit a loophole.

Eh, I would pay for League Pass regardless, so that's not something I'd worry about.

No local channels would be a deal-breaker for me, though; 95% of what I watch, that is not basketball, comes on local network channels, and I'm really not cool with the idea of having to pay extra for something that I ought to get for free.

You do get it for free, set up the 'ol rabbit ears. :)

I don't have too much of a problem paying the $5/mo for the local channels. I mean, basic cable alone is still over $10/mo and that's just the broadcast channels and maybe a couple more...

Hopefully your local cable provider will give ya NBA League Pass too though if you don't want to switch. I'm in Kings territory, but dunno if I could make it without LP. ;)

I have League Pass already, so no worries there. If the cable provider here wouldn't have offered League Pass, they never would have gotten my money in the first place.

I really, really, really wish NBA League Pass would go HDTV on the majority of their broadcasts. Kind of like NFL Season Ticket.

There was a mention of some games in HD on their website prior to the start of the season. As soon as the season started they took it of.
