GOOD Kings defense forces ball oob off Portland. Kings ball.

Salmons from downtown doesn't go; Portland rebound.

Blake miss; Kings try for the rebound but they're outnumbered and Portland gets it back.

Brandon Roy for two.

71-58 Portland

Thompson to Salmons inside for two.

71-60 Portland

Brandon Roy pullup jumper for two more.

73-60 Portland

Time out and commercial break...

Kings just look totally ineffective right now.

Pryz gets two more from the stripe...

75-60 Portland

Thompson half-hook over Pryz for two.

75-62 PTB

78-62 PTB

...sigh...

And this, fellow Kings fans, is the downside of rebuilding...

Thompson dish inside to ??? for two.

78-64 PTB

Regardless of the outcome of the game, Jason Thompson is really starting to show improvement. Greg Oden was pretty much ineffective against Spencer Hawes, so we do have reason to hope... Thompson/Hawes just might represent the Kings in Phoenix at the rookie-sophomore game during the All-Star weekend.

81-67 PTB

82-67 PTB

If the Kings get back into this game at all, I'll resume the PBP. At this point, however, it's not close and I don't see a revesal of fortune. I would, of course, love to be wrong...

And now Beno is on the floor as he took a full elbow to the jaw from Greg Oden. They're talking about the outcome when SAR broke his jaw after a similar hit. Brown in for Beno, who is being attended to by Pete Youngman on the Kings bench.

87-69 Portland

Beno heading for the locker room, quite possibly for an x-ray. Portland continuing to dominate...

89-69 Portland

96-69 Portland

Thompson for two, giving him 13 points thus far.

96-71 Portland

100-73 Portland

Portland continues to rain threes. Beno Udrih is back on the Kings bench, so the "turnip" apparently didn't land at his feet.

102-73 Portland

HAWES FOR THREE as he steps back to stretch the defense.

102-76 Portland

There are definite glimmers here, but we are not going to be able to catch up IMHO. Still, we're rebuilding and the kids are learning from the experience.

Number 1 lesson: Teams who have three-point shooters need to somehow be prevented from raining threes down upon your head at every juncture.

102-78 Portland

Hawes with a nice block from behind on whiny Joel Przybilla and they head to another commercial break...

Portland inbounds and Hawes garners ANOTHER block on Greg Oden, which doesn't seem to impress Oden very much.

:)

Thompson mid-range jumper is really starting to look nice. Thompson with 15 points and 11 rebounds so far... what's not to like about that?????

I'm signing off. The kids are learning from tonight's game and Thompson continues to impress. That's enough for me for tonight.

I LOVE THIS TEAM!!! Good, bad or ugly - they're my Kings.

:)
