For what player, the GOAT type or a an Ingram type? We'll see but if a Grant, or even a LaVine can be had at an affordable price it's worth it IMO. Monte stood pat this summer, stood pat at the deadline, now he's got all the information he needs as to how it worked. Short answer? It didn't if they were truly thinking "contention" as they talked prior to the season. Monte's got to improve the roster somehow because those other teams did theirs and year over year the bar was clearly raised. Monte also has to think about Murray as an addition, but not the path. Even if Murray gets to be a 20 ppg scorer where does that push the team? They are pretty far from the upper rung so it's better to hope Murray gets there AND you add on top of it. That's probably what it will take to even sniff contention at this point and even if it isn't, that's the way Monte should approach it. Shoot for the moon, nothing lower.
