Kings should make a strong play to Shannon Brown now!

Kings need to act quickly and get this guy under contract.

"Shannon Brown's agent, Mark Bartelstein, told ESPNLosAngeles.com's Dave McMenamin that Barnes' signing does not change things in Brown's negotiations with the Lakers but with 11 players now under contract for the Lakers and the remaining two roster spots considered earmarked for the team's two second-round draft picks, it would appear that Brown will not be returning to L.A."

Disagree. Shannon Brown is athletic but he's no smarter than Jordan Farmar, and definitely not a point guard.

At this point, I'd be on board. Give him a 2 year 5 million dollar deal with a team option on the second year and he probably bites.

Doesn't seem like teams are knocking down his door. You know he can play. He's kinda a less volatile, lesser Nate Robinson type.

He could probably be the change of pace guard off the bench on the cheap.

He'd also get us over the minimal threshold with his signing.

C: Dalembert, Cousins
PF: Landry, Thompson, Whiteside, (Jackson if he makes the team, doubtful)
SF: Greene, Casspi, Wright
SG: Garcia, Brown, (Christmas)
PG: Evans, Beno, Sloan

Maybe sign Christmas to fill out the wing position and add a shooting 'specialist' on the cheap

It's bad. It's as bad as it can be with Bynum, Gasol and Kobe all drawing double teams (lots of times even triple teams), leaving you wide open.

I don't even think Shannon Brown can dribble the basketball or make simple, but smart, point guard plays.

He is not a 3pt shooter, but the Kings could use his athleticism off the bench. If the Kings want to run, this is a good guy to get. I've always liked him since I saw him play at the McDonald's All-Star game, and watched him quite a bit at Michigan State. He really worked on his D there (according to Izzo).

I think someone should get him because he's an athletic prospect getting better who just contributed a decent amount to two championship teams. You could do a lot worse on a reasonable deal.

I'm just not sure where he gets minutes with Kings. Because he doesn't shoot it that well, and he's not a real start the offense PG. He's not a perfect fit...but then again he still might get better at shooting, plays solid defense and has good energy.

So, uhh, sure, why not?

I like Shannon Brown as an athletic, experienced combo defender, and think he'd be a nice addiiton, but fact of the matter is that we seem completely dedicated to next summer (ironic given that there may not be one) and appear to be looking at nothing more than 1yr contracts to fill out the roster. Brown's almost surely going to get longer than that from somebody.

Basically that one year contract thing, if that's truly our focus, means we're likely relegated to scrubs here to try to fill things out.

Still wonder if McCants might take a 1yr deal just to rejump his career. Would be by far the best talent willing to do so.

Maybe that's why they're gearing up for next summer!:D
