Kings Pre-Draft Workouts: Tyreke Evans (video)

Bingo. I was trying to find an apt comparison and it sounds like Salmons is it. Ironically Salmons (and Garcia for that matter) fooled me with their potential point guard ability coming out of college, and Salmons in particular really changed up his game into a greater scoring mode as he advanced in the league. Evans may be of that mold.

Correct me if i'm wrong but I don't think Garcia or Salmons ever played full time PG in college; they were just guys who handled the ball well for their size and position. That's the difference between Evans and Garcia/salmons. Evans played PG in high school and college, and his handles/dribbling skills are as good as any PG in college last year. It remains to be seen how good of a passer he will be but the ballhandling and penetration ability is definitely there. He looks like he can break down NBA pgs.

And yes I agree with others that I'd much rather have the team draft Evans than Holiday at #4. Our most pressing need is PG and this is a PG heavy draft....we should just draft at least 2 PGs this year.

I agree. I also believe he compares well to a more consistent Jamal Crawford type of player. He has the height, quickness, excellent handles, finishing ability, and good enough court vision to play the point. My only concern is his jump shot and shot selection but I believe its developing and is going to significantly improve over time if he has a good work ethic.

If Rubio isnt the pick at #4 then I have mixed feelings on what the Kings should do. I like the fact Holiday wants to play PG and believes he can run and lead a team. I like Evans' skills but just don't know if it will translate to him being a PG in the NBA.

As a senior at Miami, Salmons started all 32 games at PG, racking up 6.1 assists per game. But you're right about Garcia, he played SF and was good for a relatively modest 3.8 apg in his last year.
