Kings Playoff Standings Watch!!!

Doncic with a terrible game, and Mavericks are now in the blob of play-in teams. Lakers had a good 1st Q but look to give up the ghost in the 2nd half.

Don't see Phoenix losing many games and it seems likely they will eventually overtake the Kings in the standings. Memphis may slide with Morant missing time and injuries to key players though, so the Kings may still be 3rd if Memphis slides.

It will likely come down to their 2 remaining games against us. If the Kings win those games, it will be very difficult for Phoenix to over take us.

I guess we get lit up from every other part of the 3 point line. Most teams get their offense from there so we have got to guard it better and differently.

They are definitely better looking than the Kings despite having almost the same record. They manhandled them earlier in the year, and I would be surprised if the Kings beat them on Thursday which means the Pelicans game is even more important for the Kings.
Was just gonna say this. In the 3-4 Knicks games I've been able to catch lately, their defense is really underrated. I don't know if we'll be able to pull out a W against them at home.. but we do have a 3 day break between the Pelicans and Knicks. Hopefully that goes in our favor

Yeh kind of a clash of two styles. We move the ball, shoot incredibly well while the Knicks are a poor shooting team, don’t take many threes, play a ton of iso, get to the line and grab offensive rebounds. We are going to have to keep them off the glass or we will be in trouble.

The short break will not be fun if sitting on a 2 game loss streak. Beating the Pelicans should be a focus - much more doable.
let's face it the kings have played relatively average at home. It's nice that they play well on the road and all, but regressive their home record is merely ok compared to most other division leaders. A loss against the current Pelicans team (with injuries) would be disappointing - more so than the Timberwolves. They need to focus better throughout the game.

Lots of teams that don't shoot the three well seem to have great nights against us, just saying.

One of the potential common factors with these teams we lost to is their length. Bright lengthy wings who haven't quite mastered the art of corner 3 are now allowed the decision to blitz the closeout to attack the basket or to dribble-drive and give the rest of his teammates the chance to shift and reposition around the court.

And we have a tendency to give up straight-line drives.

The Kings have a 2 game lead on the Suns with 19 games left to play while the Suns only have 17 games left with two of them against Sacramento. If they catch us it's because we let them catch us.
That's enough games that they actually don't have to win the H-2-H's....with splittling they also take tiebreaker. I think the Suns are likely the best team in the Western Conference now and they may finish 4 or 5 games better than the Kings. The Suns could go 13-4 or 12-5 with the Kings going 8-11 or 9-10, Yes there's a good chance the Kings could falter enough and yield the seeding position to the Suns.

You're thinking abstractly, let's look at some actual data. The Suns are 15-5 over their last 20 games and the Kings are 12-8. So in the last 20 the Suns have been on an absolute tear and have made up 3 games. If they lose both H2H's that would effectively make them 4 games back with 15 left to play. If they lose one they're still 2 games back with 15 left.

Of course they could catch us but it's not going to be easy. Not easy enough to make it a foregone conclusion. And I would consider the Kings playing sub .500 ball for the last month of the season to count as "letting them catch us". Obviously our guys still have to keep winning at around a. 600 clip as they have up to this point.

So much doom and gloom from a few of you lol

Did anyone have us 5-1 after the all-star break? After everyone thought we'd fall out of the playoffs after the trade deadline?

I'll panic when there's a good reason to. The Minny game was absolutely winnable, but I give credit to the Kings for continuing to fight back over and over and not just totally punt a game in the middle of the 3rd quarter. If we think back, how many games have the Kings just given up on this season? Or just didn't compete at any point of the game? Maybe like 3 or 4? That's tremendous progress in itself, for a franchise that seemed like it would only actually try every other game.

why assume they don't catch the Griz too and the Kings still pass the Grizz?
Yeah I think most likely we hang onto 3 and Grizz fall but Phoenix jumps. Next most likely is us climbing to 2. I think to wind up in 4 GS or another team will have to jump us but I think Memphis is poised to take a big fall with the late injuries and distractions, they were playing poorly and just hanging on before that. Maybe that will be cause to rally, but it's going to be tough. IIRC they didn't have a piece of cake schedule either.

Better to rest him in a game we can probably win without him since he's got that sore wrist the last thing we want is for him sitting for the last week or more of the season
If Fox is out I hope we run Monk/Sabonis pnr all game long.Valanciunas(if he plays) and Hernangomez are brutal in pnr defense and Nance is not available.

Smart play with fox out would be to run the ball through sabonis for long stretches with a lot more rolls than pops. Pelicans are soft in the middle so eat them up. Good news this might be a golden opportunity for sabonis to pick up another triple double

Yeah, every NBA team has nights where they "just don't got it." The Minny game, though winnable, felt very much like one of those nights. It's a credit to Mike Brown and the resiliency of this Kings team that far more often than not, they are in every game, even the ones where they start flat or seem uninspired. The Wolves only won by 4 in a game that the Kings quite honestly deserved to lose. I'll take that fight and that 4th quarter determination as an extremely positive sign heading into the playoffs.
