Kings notes: Mobley might have visited the stands earlier in career

WASHINGTON - The Kings had just rallied for a hard-fought 110-108 victory over the Washington Wizards on Sunday night when it appeared guard Cuttino Mobley was ready to go into the stands near halfcourt.

Mobley said he might have reacted more aggressively earlier in his career after listening to a big-mouthed Wizards fan for the entire game about how Washington's Gilbert Arenas, who tied his career high with 43 points, was scoring against the Kings' guard.

But Mobley wasn't about to let the fan go home without a dose of high-powered verbiage after scoring the game's final four points, including two free throws with 1.5 seconds left.

"He was riding with the Wizards and talking specifically to me about how Gilbert kept hitting shots," said Mobley, who scored 18 points and shot 6 of 17 from the field. "I can't really say what I said to him, but it's a good thing I'm a lot more conservative than I was earlier in my career."

Mobley called official Joe DeRosa, "a great referee" after he made a foul call against Arenas on the Kings' final possession. Mobley was attempting to go up for a jump shot in the lane when Arenas went for a strip and believed he hit nothing but the ball.

"I've said what I've had to say about the refs in the past, but it's not like I was saying all of the referees were bad," Mobley said. "I'd said something to the refs earlier about the way they were trying to strip the ball, and they called it this time."

Arenas, Bibby escape T's - Kings forward Corliss Williamson received the only individual technical foul, but guards Mike Bibby and Arenas were lucky not to receive similar violations at different points.

Bibby fell to the floor and rolled in disbelief after being called for a foul when he believed he hit the ball reaching in on Arenas, who was driving to the basket.

Then, on the aforementioned play involving Mobley and Arenas, the Wizards' guard ran with the ball and fired it off the backboard. That maneuver usually draws a technical, which the Kings' bench screamed for, but DeRosa, James Capers and Tommy Nunez Jr. apparently never saw the fling.

X-rays on Songaila negative - Kings forward Darius Songaila departed with 8:05 remaining after spraining his left ankle. X-rays after the game were negative, so Songaila, the lone King to play in all 57 games, will likely be listed as day-to-day. The Kings have one day off before visiting the Charlotte Bobcats on Tuesday night.

So, now I realize what he was so heated about at the end of last nights game!

hope darius is ok and will be able to play on tuesday :)

i hope cat doesn't get fined or worse, suspended. remember what happened to sprewell? i don't think cat said anything like what sprewell said, though, so hopefully he'll be fine. we can't afford to lose another GUARD! mike has got to be dead tired right now. i hope kevin gets more minutes.

and what's the bibby thing? what would've given him a T? he rolled on the floor?

the arenas thing, i believe i saw on espnnews. i wondered why he wasn't given a T for that, too.

Gilbert probably would have been T'd if it happend earlier, but in the final seconds Refs hate to trun a gbame on a T espcialy against a Star on his home court. I suspect Cat will have to write another check just beceause of the Spree thing and of course the Detroite Brawl. Hope the Ice and whirl pool do wonders for Darius leg

Come on guys, the NBA is getting ridiculas if the fine Mobley for just Debating a Fan. Charles Barkley did that all the time in his career. I don't think the NBA is that hungry for money or are they?

After the whole Pistons/Pacers debacle the NBA seems to be clamping down on anyone who steps even a toe out of line. They think if they make examples of enough people they'll be too scared to even look at the crowd.

Get Well D-Song

We need you out there, bruddah !!!!

I want a Songaila Home Jersey ... do they have them at the Arco Team Store ?

While I understand that... it's just not fair. That'll always makes fans heckling the players the whole game and the fans get away with it! NBA players are human too. They're not robots that have no feelings and no ears. It's hard to be a player trying your butt out there and hearing fans say bad things to you. I don't like fans who goes to game just to talk trash to the opponent's players. Booing the opponent, I'm fine with..but not trash talking. You pay big bucks to watch basketball, right?? Then Go to the game and watch basketball!!! Don't talk trash!!! If you go to the game to just talk trash to players, then you are not much of a Basketball fan cause you don't want to enjoy the game. This is just my opinion.

It's not that hard. Give me $5 million and I'll show you how easy it is to keep quiet.

It doesn't matter about how many money you get paid, even you can be the richest man in the world, and when you hear someone say something bad to you, it gets on your nerve/makes you mad. Some people can handle it, some can't. Doesn't even have to be sport related...just life in general.

I totally agree with all of what you said! People like that I don't even consider real "fans." But the NBA is terrified about their image after the Pistons\Pacers ordeal and they are now overreacting to things they normally would not have even looked twice at, even things that I would say are completely innocent and non-threatening

At one point during the game, the refs called a foul on Mike and he thought it was a bad call so he sprawled out on the floor....I think they call that "showing up the refs" I think Arenas really got away with a T after he threw the ball against the backboard.
