Greetings, fellow Kings fans!

Once again, the bizarre becomes the norm. First the Kings' plane is 10 hours late in taking off, putting them in New Orleans at an hour when I believe Bourbon Street was even asleep. And they still manage to put up a decent first half performance.

Then, however, in what you can almost predict nowadays, they came out after the half-time break and did ... well, nothing is probably a kind word. Whatever Musselman and his group of merry men are doing during half-time certainly isn't inspiring the team. When your top players don't even remember if there was a half-time speech, let alone what it consisted of, that's not a good sign...

So we manage to make it interesting right until the 25-second possession of the Hornets. Life - and NBA basketball - are just not fair.

;)

One more thing? Congratulations to Eric Musselman for the most idiotic Technical I've ever seen. What a dumb thing to do...

It's cold and cloudy here in the forest, but still no precipitation to speak of. At least there's a little more moisture in the air so people aren't shocking each other because of excess static electricity. My cats are relieved - it got so every time I touched them sparks would jump.

Let's see what Scott Howard-Cooper has to say in today's Bee about the matchup against the Mavericks (and brace yourselves):

http://www.sacbee.com/351/story/114469.html

Tonight's Game: Kings (17-24) at Dallas (35-9)
By Scott Howard-Cooper - Bee Staff Writer

KINGS OUTLOOK - As if facing the Mavericks isn't trouble enough under any circumstances, the Kings get them on the second night of a back- to-back and as the sixth game in nine days. They have won once in Dallas in the last eight regular-season and playoff games, including a 19-point defeat on Dec. 18 while allowing 109 points. That's nothing new. The Mavericks have hit the Kings for triple-digit scoring in 15 of the last 16 meetings, and each of Dallas' last four wins in the series have been by double digits.

MAVERICKS OUTLOOK - The defending Western Conference champions went from losing the first four games of the season to winning 35 of the next 40, pulling away from everyone except Phoenix -- clearly the best teams in the league. The Mavericks have already had one streak of 13 wins and another of 12. Dirk Nowitzki, at 25.1 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, remains the star and an MVP candidate. The new development is Josh Howard going from valued complementary player to All-Star candidate after increasing his scoring from 15.6 points a game last season to 19.6 in 2006-07.

KEY MATCHUP - Kenny Thomas vs. Dirk Nowitzki - Or everyone vs. Dirk Nowitzki. The Mavericks' superstar is an impossible matchup, a 7-footer who can work inside and shoot over defenders or move to the perimeter with great accuracy. That makes him too quick for most power forwards and too big for most small forwards.

PROBABLE STARTERS

Kings - Bibby, Martin, Artest, Thomas, Miller

Mavericks - Harris, Terry, Howard, Nowitzki, Dampier

Let's review:

1. 6th game in 9 days (and a travel day from hell, to boot)
2. Kings have one win in American Airlines Center in their last 8 appearances
3. The game's key matchup is Kenny Thomas vs. Dirk Nowitzki
4. Mark Cuban is a jerk
5. Our team ship's rudder is made of silly putty.

Sorry, but we are doom-ed.

We will have chat going at mIRC, server irc.bludgeon.org, channel #kingsfans. And, of course, we have our game discussion thread. The intro today was done by venom_7, who did an able job as piksi's understudy. piksi claimed to have something else to do; I think he hit his head against his computer one too many times and he's blurred his vision - which might not be a bad thing to do if you're going to watch a Kings game.

;)

I'd like to take a moment to thank all our loyal members for continuing to come and share their hopes, dreams, fears, nightmares, etc. about our beloved Kings. It's always a pleasure to log on and see a discussion going on - I almost feel like part of a 12-step program.

"Hi. My name is VF21. I'm a Kings fan." It's nice to know there are so many other program members checking in...

Anyone can be a fan when the going is good; when your team is struggling, however, is when the true measure of being a fan comes into play. Thanks to all who come here and contribute their comments, thoughts, etc. We truly have a family of fans here that I don't think is equaled anywhere else...

Now I have some firewood to split and I'm going to make a fresh pot of Gevalia French Vanilla coffee. See you back here at game time.

GO KINGS!!!

When forced to watch a matchup like today's, that Gevalia French Vanilla coffee isn't complete without a couple of shots of schnaps or Irish whiskey.

Well... on this particular Saturday... yes. Besides it may be the only chance I get to crack a smile when talking about this game.

And I know I've mentioned it here once before but I did do some work with AAC in the past so I've had the whole Arena vs. Center thing permanantly burned into my mind.
