[drupal=39]Kings in the Motor City - Will they sputter or roar?[/drupal]

The game against the Raptors was ugly, it was painful to watch and it was predictable in a way. When you have guys stepping up to exemplary levels filling in for the "starters," and then those "starters" return to the lineup there's bound to be an adjustment period. The problem is: Are those "starters" really the players the Kings want and need on the court for the majority of minutes?

Mike Bibby was a major part of "The Team." He's struggled since then, however, especially with the dirth of someone in the front court to play the Webber role. Ron Artest is a totally different problem. There's no way you can question his heart, but he's the square peg being hammered into the round hole in the current Kings dynamic. And when push comes to shove he wants to put the team on his back and do it all.

Kevin Martin is the exception, as he showed in both the Indiana and Dallas games. He's one of the players whose future is tied to the Kings, unlike Bibby and Artest. We want and need Kevin Martin.

As the Kings take the court tonight against the Pistons, Coach Reggie Theus and his staff are going to need the wisdom of Solomon to figure out to whom to allocate minutes and when. One thing they really need to consider, today's article in the Bee notwithstanding, is putting Kenny Thomas on the inactive list. The Kings need the defensive presence of Dahntay Jones coming off the bench; his heart and hustle have been a joy to watch and a pleasant surprise. Benching him in favor of K9 made no sense at all.

This current assemblage of Kings isn't going to win the O'Brien trophy this year. In fact, they most likely won't be playing past April 15, unless they're involved in pick-up games and summer leagues. And hopefully, there will be some new faces on the Kings long before then.

The team we saw on Wednesday wasn't fun, it wasn't entertaining, it wasn't energetic. It was old and tired, and way too reminiscent of The Year of the Suckage.

We - the loyal Kings fans - can take losing. What we cannot and should not be expected to take is more of what we were forced to watch last year. There's no real excuse for it.

Put the kids back in. Let Udrih, Salmons, Garcia, Moore and Miller start and sub Martin in for Moore. Go small and quick and take your chances. Give Hawes some more exposure. It can't hurt.

Let the kids run!!! And let the fans see the energy and excitement they've rallied around. It's not winning that's important right now; it's restoring KINGS basketball to the fans.

GO KINGS!!!

I hope no one minds but I dug around until I found this in the archives.

Remember, this was when Martin was first coming back...

Although I may disagree with allocating a lot of minutes for Douby, I wouldn't mind seeing Shelden get more time. As I said above, the bottom line should be about restoring KINGS basketball.

We've seen glimmers of it but I have to be honest - the only real excitement of this season was that brief period of time when the kids had their day.

Major kudos to Brad for really working on his game and ditto to Mikki for his heart and hustle. I'm shifting my position slightly and moving towards what Bricklayer has been trying to say. I don't care how hard it is, but Artest and Miller, Moore and AJ need to take their seats. Let the young guns sink or swim, AS LONG AS THEY LEAVE IT ALL OUT THERE ON THE COURT.

I know this looks as though I'm waffling. And in a way I guess I am. I've been defending what I didn't understand like a lioness defends her cubs.

But I remember exactly how I felt when I wrote this blog entry and after reading everything that's been posted in various threads recently, I find I still feel the same.

Just like the majority of you here, I WANT MY KINGS BACK!!! I guess I've just been accepting the now because I have no idea what the future will bring.
