our team has one of the biggest hearts in the NBA PERIOD. i feel if not for fatigue we could have really won this game. it'll be very emotional on sat. for sure...

This team, without Chris and without Peja, played their hearts out tonight. It didn't result in a win but you cannot question their effort to win. It was also a really fun game to watch (would have been more fun if they'd been able to win) Tthey ran, they defended, they rebounded (down 7 by the end, but only at the end), they shot the ball well, and ultimately
they ran out of gas and options with the super short bench. I love this team too!
EDIT: Maybe more relieved than happy that you are feeling better and more optimistic today!

Great performance tonight. Obviously, the defensive rebounding was a huge problem and I feel like we should have tried to man up on Dallas in the 4th quarter to prevent them for having more 2nd chance opportunities and long shots to try and get back in the game.
Of course, our guys got tired and we were missing most of our big guys who would have helped with the rebounding problem.
I am really impressed by Evans. I hope this guy still gets playing time even with the new guys coming in.
Mobley should also respect the ball a little more.

sloter - One thing you need to remember is that Cat has been called a ball-hog most of his career. All of his passes may not have been good tonight BUT at least he was trying to make them. That, IMHO, is worthy of praise.

Basketball has been in my blood for over 40 years. And the Kings have been a big part of that for 20 of those years. For me, the bottom line was that regardless of how much it hurt to see Webber traded, I could not turn my back on the rest of the team. THAT would have been the biggest hurt of all. So, I'm back.

Neither Bibby nor Peja strike me as the most "step up" guys on the team; on the court, either "yes" or "maybe", depending on your point of view, but not in the chest thumping or team leading arena. I really hope Mike steps up quietly (a la Steve Nash) and takes over the team. He has wonderful court vision and the ability to either distribute the ball or take the shot as needed. I hope he finds a way to "man up" in a new way, he's just never seemed to be comfortable speaking publicly or pushing himself into such a prominent position. Don't get me wrong, I love Peja as a player too, I am just curious as to who the best player left on the Kings team is who can assume a public/team leadership role. For some reason, I don't even begin to see Brad in that position.

i mean i really don't think that he should be the one to HAVE to...considering he's still rather new and all but what would be so bad about it if he did? why is it your biggest fear in otherwords?

I don't think it will be Mike simply because it's pretty obvious he'd rather let his actions on the court speak for him. He's simply not comfortable in a public speaking role and I don't want him wasting time worrying about anything but his play on the court.
I don't have a problem if Cat steps up and becomes the new team leader, because the only way he can do it is if the other players accept him in the role.
They'll figure it out among themselves and that's the only way it can be.

VF, they're all tough to me. I wanted to see the 2001-2002 core group win the NBA championship sooner or later, but I wanted to see them ALL get it together. I guess my dream began to die when Vlade left (for whatever reasons), then Doug was traded and after that nothing would have surprised me much, although the Webber trade surprised me more than Peja being traded would have, I think the fact that Chris had such good stats is what facilitated his trade. I wouldn't say that I was a player fan but that I was a fan of THAT particular team (and the four years that led up to that team formation). I've loved the Kings for 20 years but that team was special to me. I'll continue to be a fan and I hope that GP can put a team together that makes me feel the same way as I did about that team. I'll support them, buy game tickets, team gear for anyone I can think of, and watch them on TV when I have to, and cheer for them as long as they remain in Sacramento. Shoot, I might even cheer for them if they leave.
I suspect you feel somewhat the same way.

Part of it has to do with his first interviews on TV/radio as a Kings player and his humility and gratitude for being here, which I really appreciated as a Kings fan. Those sentiments were quickly replaced by his much more confident persona which he displayed with his more, um, outgoing interviews which resulted in (I think) around 30K in personal fines and a decidely unbalanced ref response which, in turn, resulted in a couple (or three) Kings losses at the hands of the refs. But that's just my opinion.
. The Kings have enough problems with the refs now without adding him as the team leader (not to mention the fact that he could be out of here in a couple of months). I think the league referees have long enough memories without antagonizing them over a team leader who might be gone soon.
I wish I had a better idea though over who might become the team's leader.

For me though, my sorrow might just be an accumulation of all the trades/departures over the past eight months or so, I do think that's why I am so upset. CW wasn't my favorite player over the last couple of years (he was doing his best to change my mind
) but I do feel very sad over the trade and the rapid transformation of the Kings and I think it's because I (personally) wanted that team to reverse the wrongs of the 2001-2002 WCF but it was never meant to be. Sheesh, I'll quit now before I start bawling and/or spamming the board with negativity.

one PBP guy from TNT said last night that he talked to mike and told him that he shouldn't let this affect him in a negative way. and then said that mike was really aggressive from the start, and during timeouts, he was their vocal leader, oftentimes screaming at his teammates so they'd know what to do.
i hope mike's comfortable with that. mike's a grown man. i think he knows the team needs him now more than ever. if he's willing to step up to be the new leader, then i am very happy.
great heart and effort shown by the team tonight. they just kept fighting back, and they played so hard. as a fan, that's all you can ask for.
