Even though his tandem with the Kings deftly shooter has been limited, Rookie of the Year candidate Tyreke Evans sees Martin’s return as a chance to rekindle the early season connection the guard pair was building.
“I think it’s going to be great,” Evans said. “We have Omri playing well and Noc and (our entire bench). Kevin is going to come in and he’s not going to just come off the bat ready, he might have a good game, but he’s probably going to still be a little rusty, catching his breath running up and down. But when he comes back, I think it’s going to work a lot because I draw a lot of attention now and when I draw and kick, he’s going to knock that shot down.”
During the preseason Martin spoke optimistically about how Evans’ ability to drive would create more shots for his teammates and himself. The shooting guard’s hope was quickly supported by his 48-point effort on 14-of-27 shooting from the field in the Kings home opening victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.
“I love playing with (Evans),” Martin said after the Kings-Blazers game in early October. “That’s the guy I wanted since day one, and I got him. Just being on the court with him, we’re still learning each other’s game, but we work together every day so it’s just going to get better and better.”
