the best franchise player be it Rochester Royals, Cincinnati Royals, Kansas-Omaha City Kings, and Sacramento Kings who was the best in history?

1. Oscar Robertson
2. Nate Archibald
3. Jack Twyman
4. Mitch Richmond
5. Chris Webber

Any choice other than The Big O doesn't make much sense.

oops i put mitch on there twice sorry...

Fixed.

In the future, you might want to check the box to make these types of polls public to see who voted for whom.

You have to be kidding, however, with this whole topic. Oscar is so far above everyone else the only reason someone wouldn't pick him is because they weren't alive when he was playing or don't know much about NBA greats.

I'd like to ask anyone who picks Chris Webber over Oscar Robertson to explain why. I'm a really big Webber fan but there's really no comparison.

im guessing theyre more casual fans, or didnt follow the kings history, or nba history for that matter. cwebb is the biggest star in recent memory... thats my explanation for it.

I suppose. It's a shame that our newer fans don't know the history of the franchise more.

We had a Rochestal Royals fan here and NK64 is a fan from back in the Kansas City days. They told some good stories. I don't know if the stories are still there, though, or if they were lost when the board had the catastrophic failure back in 2004.

People need to do some research about Oscar and Nate "Tiny" Archibald. And, while they're at it, they should look up the other guys whose jerseys have been retired.

If I get a bit of time, maybe I'll post some information about each of the numbers hanging in the rafters. The stories behind a couple of them will really surprise and move you.

:)

I wasn't going to cop to it - I was so embarrassed... but for me, it is very simple. I read the poll title too fast and hadn't had enough coffee yet. Saw the thread title, rushed to the poll and did the deed. Didn't even take in the "Rochester, Cincinatti, KC" part of the initial post, or read the choices.

I'm very sorry and that's all I have to say about that.

well I'm not afraid to be in the minority or hold an unpopular position but this was the equivalent of a typo and I felt kind of bad for distorting the result...

If you feel really badly, I can delete your vote.

;)

Kingszrool - I'll fix the spelling right now.

I did the same thing, and didn't see Jack Twyman at the very bottom of the list. Oops. :o

Gotta be the Big-O. I hesitated for a moment on Tiny, but that was more a personal bias then anything basketball. Oscar is the guy though.

This...well, isn't much of a poll. Anyboyd with any historical perspective on the game knows that its Oscar Robertson, and its not even arguable. Hell, while some people who dislike Webb might try to slip in Archibald or Richmond, #2 isn't even terribly arguable. Guess we can at least have a debate about whether Tiny or Mitch was the better irrelevant guard leading a losing franchise for the #3 all time spot. Twyman is a wildcard just because he's so old and semi-obscure that anybody who isn't old enough to have actually watched him play (i.e. anybody much under 60) has no way of telling.

My vote for third place goes to Archibald...

His most accomplished feat may be in 1973 when he used his breathtaking quickness to become the first and still the only NBA player to lead the league in scoring (34.0) and assists(11.4)

Kinda hard to not vote for the guy who averaged a triple double..

...Maybe a better poll woulda been "Who was the best ever Royal/King...Besides Oscar Robertson" :p

Bobby Hurley?!? That's a joke, right? I would have put Vlade Divac or even Eddie Johnson on the list instead of that little flash in the pan, derailed by a traffic accident next to ARCO arena. Oscar Robertson is one of the 5-10 greatest basketball players ever to walk the earth - and of course on the NBA's 50 greatest of all time list.

Even I, a Laker fan, knows the Big O is head and shoulders above the others. :)

Yeah... you want a poll about Oscar Robertson, it should be more like: "Who was the greatest basketball player of all time? Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, Oscar Robertson..."

Ok, my top 10 of all time:

1. Wilt Chamberlain
2. Michael Jordan
3. Kareem Abdul Jabbar
4. Bill Russell
5. Oscar Robertson
6. Magic Johnson
7. Larry Bird
8. Jerry West
9. Elgin Baylor
10.Julius Erving

Hard not to find a spot on my list for Rick Barry, Pete Maravich, Bill Walton,
George Mikan, Karl Malone, John Stockton, Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant,
Isiah Thomas, Bob Cousy, Tim Duncan, Moses Malone, Hakeem Olajuwon, etc, etc.

for me at least... i split it up into two... the greats that were before my time, wilt, walton, russel, pistol pete, kaj, big o, etc. and then theres the guys starting from bird and on, which would be comprised of bird, magic, jordan, malone, stockton, pippen, shaq, kobe, etc.

Oscar - hands down. He averaged triple-doubles even before the NBA kept records on those stats. He's the inspiration for my screen name and avatar.

I am a big fan of CWebb. But, the only reason I can think of that someone would choose him as better than the Big O, is that they are too young to know who Oscar Robertson was to the game of basketball.
