Nevada's Nick Fazekas may not be very athletic, but he looked good in his workout next to Pittsburgh center Aaron Gray and Colorado State forward Jason Smith. Gray may be the only guy in the draft that can make Fazekas look athletic, while Smith struggled to guard him in the paint.
Everyone was wowed by Smith's athleticism, but he struggled shooting the ball, which kept him from bowling teams over. One team, the Kings, took enough interest that they asked him to come in and work out as a candidate to be the No. 10 pick.
The reviews coming out of Smith's workouts in Philadelphia and Washington were much stronger. That shows what a good (or bad) shooting day will do to your stock this time of year.
The Kings and Celtics worked out Corey Brewer and Al Thornton on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.
The word out of Sacramento's camp was the workout didn't really help either guy. Brewer struggled to shoot the ball and Thornton wasn't in great shape.
The Celtics are very high on both prospects, and according to a source close to the team, both guys worked out much better. Furthermore, the Celtics didn't see any real conditioning issues with Thornton. The source said, "He has a really high motor and doesn't really pace himself so he does tend to run out of gas a little, but I don't think it's a conditioning thing."
I'm kinda glad they didn't like Thornton since I'm not a fan of us picking him. Too bad about Brewer, but I don't think it will even be an issue since he'll probably be gone by the time we picked. Can't wait to hear on Hawes, Wright, and Green.
