Kings at .500 - Can it happen? (split from game thread)

The Kings can beat GSW & OKC. When that happens the kings will be at .500 for the first time in how long? Statisticians, where you at?

If you don't count 0-0, which is a gimme, the last time the Kings were at or over .500 was in late 2006. We started off that season 8-5 after a home win against the Clippers on Nov. 28th. Then we hit a rough stretch, losing both halves of a two-day Texas Two-Step (Dallas and San Antonio) followed by only one day off before hosting a loss to Orlando to put us at 8-8 on Dec. 4th. The very next day we had to go into Phoenix and lost, so it's 12/4/2006 or 12/5/2006 depending on how you want to count (meaning whether our record at the beginning of the day or the end of the night is what counts).

hmm, well I don't have any numbers, but when was the last time the kings won the second game of a back to back?

Not sure, but even if we do get to 4-4, I doubt we'll be .500 for very long, 74 games to go...I still say we win around 30 games this year and wind up with the 7th or 8th pick in the draft.

At this point, I'm much more concerned with this team putting together good back to back performances, regardless of if we win. Of course I hope we can string a few wins together, because being at or near .500 will be a confidence booster for such a young team.

yeah thats it, one game at a time. Confidence is high though so in the short term it is a possibility. No point dwelling on it though

January 14 2009, in a road game against the Warriors. Lost the first game of that back-to-back, though. It's been a lot longer since we won both games of a back-to-back.

This is by far the easiest month of our season. Enjoy it, but don't make too much of it.

does 4-4 even count? i know that it does but seriously... if we are at .500 30 games into the season then cool but damn... when most fans talk about being .500 they usually mean for the season, not the 8th game of the season.

im happy that we won but damn, we still have a long way to go. keep in mind that we only won like 5 games after the trade deadline last year, there is a lot of basketball left to be played this year. but the one thing that this does prove is that we were much better than our record showed last season. the close games will be that much more fun to watch this year... we might actually win some of them.

Of course we have a long way to go. Is there a problem with celebrating the steps along the way?

no but i cant think of another team where the fans create threads about being .500 8 games into the season. i didnt know that it was that bad in kingsland. i live in los angeles, they dont even celebrate winning their conference let alone being .500 8 games in. that includes the clippers, mostly because they never win and have nothing to celebrate...

its a cultural thing, my bad...

Dude...are you serious? I think you've been in LA way too long. I can remember when Kings fans used to celebrate losing by less than 10. It's all relative. And for the record? As far as I'm concerned I'd much rather be the fan of a losing team in Sacramento than a winning team in LA. And I suspect there are a lot of other Kings fans who feel exactly the same way...

are you serious? regardless of what team we cheer for we dont celebrate being 4-4 unless you are a raiders fans....

last season was hard, very hard, we've all been here for the various ups and downs but not many expected last season. When it comes to the big picture yes celebrating being 4-4 means nothing, the celtics dont celebrate winning 3 games in a row nor do they celebrate being eastern conference champs until its all said and done.

That being said though we are clearly not the celtics and getting caught up in the fact that the team has seemingly turned a corner shouldnt be looked down upon. I mean i could argue its a great thing - look at our arena, getting caught up in this might actually put people in seats.

Its a start, a start we might as well support as it will lead us eventually to where we want to be. Were all in the same boat, we can get pumped and excited and celebrate every win or we can sit back and take it slow look for the flaws where we have to improve. The fact is either way were still supporting the team we all love and really thats all that matters

AriesMar27 - If you don't want to recognize and celebrate, don't. It's that simple. I don't see why you feel the need to rain on somebody else's parade. Why not just bow out of this thread? Your shtick is getting pretty old.

to be honest i thought that my first post wasnt that bad. its wasnt negative i was just being realistic.

and again, see... im not the one who starts these things....

that should be my new sig...

3 in a row baby! 2nd was the 2nd game of back to back! get out of here!!

I am incredibly excited for the Kings to be 4 up and 4 down. H%$# man, our two best scorers from last season are sitting injured!!! The rookies are really good, Tyreke for ROY!

GO KINGS!!!

And once Thompson starts throwing down and not missing open layups he will be a known force with the points and pass

They do when it hasn't happened since Dec. of 2006.

Ever the call of the negative person..."I was just being realistic." This is a Kings fan message board. Reality is subject to change and change again and then, before you know it, change once more. Your reality isn't necessarily the same as someone else's.

and again, see... im not the one who starts these things....

Oh don't sell yourself short. You do start these things, sometimes quite subtly as a matter of fact. And then you relish the resulting argument. You said it yourself...you love to argue.

Bottom line in my book is that at times you tiptoe very close to the "don't be a jerk" line. Probably because you spend way too much time with Laker fans so maybe that's not your fault. You aren't the innocent, however. You pretty much know what you're doing.

Now can we just let this get back to the topic at hand? If you want to continue this particular discussion I'll be more than happy to oblige via PMs.

I absolutely agree!

It may only be a 4-4 .500, but compared to last year...wow!

I think, what the 4 wins tells us is important too:

Memphis - 1st win. Shows that we CAN win and that we can do it in overtime.

Utah - Evans can play...and against one of the better PGs in Williams.

GS - We can score a lot of points if we have to. Also, we can beat teams we are supposed to (or at least us Kings fans think we are supposed to).

OKC - Can scrap out an ugly win and play defense. Plus 3 wins = win-streak and a .500 record!

Yes, it is only 8 games into the season, but there is the possibility of something special is there. I just hope I can save enough $$ to get NBA LP before too much of the season is over.

Not sure of your monetary situation but you can do $30 installment plans for 5 months. That's what us broke college students do.
