[News] Kings and Schroder agree on three year 45 million dollar contract. No sign and trade

So much money. I guess we have to pay the Sacramento tax?

but

Dennis || Monk || Carter
LaVine || Keon
DDR || Nique
Keegan || IJ
Domas || Reynaud

Is your current rotation. Added Dennis, lost JV, LaRavia and Lyles

Look- I don't love Schroder at 3/45. But this is evidence that Perry isn't a lightweight. He wanted to trade Monk to Detroit and get real assets and Detroit obviously said no. They wanted it to be Schroder for Monk straight up. So Perry called their bluff, dumped JV, signed Schroder without a sign and trade, and held Monk for a different trade.

Like I said, I don't love the Schroder signing in a vacuum. But Perry identified a guy he wanted, and got him on the terms he wanted him. When another team pushed back, Perry found his own way. He might suck as a roster builder and talent evaluator (time will tell) but at least this gives me hope that our GM isn't a pushover.

I'm just unsure who we were competing with for this deal that he deserved full MLE? Every other similar pg took about half of what he got.
I don't hate it, again i'm a broken record but we literally have no forwards on the team.

I am praying for a Demar for a forward deal incoming.

@carmichaeldave is a hot little potato over this and so am I. I can’t think of a signing im less excited about in Kings history than this one. That’s before you consider we overpaid and gave too many years.

Over-exaggerated Sigh

It depends what the end result is here. Are we done? Because right now:

Gained
Dennis Schroeder
Dario Saric (although seems dubious he's still on the team)

Lost:
JV
LaRavia
Lyles
Keon Ellis RFA rights

We're in a worse position and we've risked one of our most valuable players team control to do it. There's got to be more shoes to fall now.

It’s literally just the standard MLE deal. Not like we gave him huge additional money.

Yeh if the third year is not guaranteed it’s essentially the deal we have been talking about since the beginning.

Still, what’s the plan with Monk now? Was the trade ever real? If it was, how are we smoothing things over? How are we fixing the 3 small 2 guards situation?

My sentiments exactly. Do hope that 3rd year is a team option.

of course nothing can get signed until the 6th I believe so the 3 year deal does make it possible it could still be re-negotiated into a S&T. But Perry is charging forward.

Holdup, we lost Lyles??

Good teams would have prioritized extending young talent like Keon and Keegan.

Yesterday Vecenie had us finishing second to last in the west, mostly due to the brutal competition. Obviously health will shake things up for some teams but it sounded about right to me. I’ve mentally prepared myself for a tough year wins and losses wise. The thing is, things could turn quick. If either Maxine or Nique hit and you walk into a top ten pick in a loaded draft we could be on our way up in short order.

I don't mind losses in the slightest. And if the plan was "Hey, we're clearing the runway for Reynaud and Nique to be a 15-20 MPG from the jump. We're clearing the runway for Keon and Carter to be 30+ MPG guys. Let's see what they are". Perfect. If we're bad, so be it. If we're good, we got more found money.

But this Dennis stuff just does not seem like a team that's trying to do clear the runway for the young guys. Us not shopping DDR around. Us talking to vets like Russ and Brogdon. That indicates a team that's still trying to win games. And the "culture" stuff is bullcrap, on a team with LaVine, DDR, Domas and even Monk at this point. There's plenty of vet leadership in the locker room.
