KF - Official Fantasy Football League - 2008

Rockmeister

All-Star
It was about this time last year I created the fantasy football thread, therefore, I thought I would go ahead and start it. And besides, its never to late to think about football. :p Ok, who's coming back from last year? If you are coming back, please post here and I'll PM you the information you will need to sign up.

Draft time is August 16th (Saturday) @ 10:30a.m. I have the same settings as last year.

By the way, I will need to know soon if you plan on participating. Many timeslots have already been taken, therefore, if the date doesn't work out, I'll need to know quick.

The following names were in my league last year:

Bradymeister
G_M_
nebs niners
LT JSin
Evil Implacable (Evilmav)
Gary's BENGALS
Red Curtain Defense (Circa_1985_Fan)
MI Kings Fan (bigdog)
CDiddy's Chico 49ers
VF21 Devils
Astro Pops
Venoms Vendetta

By the way, this is an active league, therefore, would like to keep this trend going

Oh yea, some people didn't like the settings as last year, so, let's start the discussion on what settings you would like.

I'm definitely in. My Chico 49ers have relocated to Arden Fair. They wouldn't give us a new stadium. :D

The only setting that I can remember off the top of my head that I would be interested in discussing was the waiver claims. Other sites, most notably ESPN, have the option to lock the free agent list every Sunday morning before kick-off (or Thurs or Sat, depending on games) and move everyone to two day waivers. This was a big positive change for me in the league I played in last year. Not only did it prevent people from adding and dropping players at will (because it hurts the waiver priority) it also gave these people who were away from their keyboards on Sundays the opportunity to still get hot free agents off the waiver wire.

If a big guy gets injured or if a back-up has a big game, the first to the keyboard mid-game on Sunday isn't guaranteed to get the player, which I think is a positive and very fair.

Managing your waiver priority becomes crucial, and really shows who the skilled fantasy managers are. You really have to make decisions more carefully. I mean, should I pick up the Giants 3rd WR because Burress is out for 2 weeks, or should I save my priority in case something better comes up?

As always, I'm very open to opposing viewpoints and I support the majority on this and every decision.

Good topic. Yes, I, too, would like to discuss the waiver claims. And I think it would be fair to have this. I've had this in previous leagues and it does make it quite fair for everyone.

I'll play again. Any way we could move the draft time to a little further in the day. I work every Saturday until about 1-2 o'clock in the afternoon.

I would like to keep the 10:30a.m. draft time for now. Lets see what everyone else has to say and if the majority of the people can do a 1-2 o'clock, I'll go ahead and switch it.

The 10:30 time works much better for me. :(

Did you use the option to send emails to each of last year's participants? You might want to check and see if you can do it now if you didn't. I got a very quick response that way.

Ok, the following names have already signed up for the league

nebs
CDiddy
Evil Mav
Gary Bengals
VF
Bradymeister

I have PMs to the following:

G_M_
LT JSin
bigdog
Spike (Astro Pops)
venom_7

Please let me know if you are coming back.

Circa_1985_Fan - I sent you the information several days ago. When you get time, please sign up
.

The 10:30am PST draft time is much better for me since it translates to 9:30pm for me rather that close to midnight.

Oh, I'm in.

Settings- I like the delayed locked waiver wire idea, but I've yet to see yahoo offer it. It's only a number of days. That might be a change for this year, but I haven't seen it yet. As always, I'd love to see more bench spots so I can stash guys I might like at sometime in the season, thin out the waiver wire some. I'll take a look at the other settings to see if there is anything else.

Oh yeah, I will be celebrating my fantasy football championship from the states, I will be home by the end of the football season. :D

More suggestions:

1. Reduce QB TD from 6 points to 4 points.

2. Reduce playoff teams from 8 to 6 so the top two teams get first round byes.

Out of curiosity, what's the reason behind the reduce points from QB's?

I think it makes QB too valuble. When a QB is throwing 30 TD and getting the same points as a RB who is lucky to touch half that. QB's should not be that much more valuble than all the other positions.

So, far we have the following that has been brought up for discussion:

1. Waiver claim
2. Reduce QB TD from 6 points to 4 points
2. Reduce playoff teams from 8 to 6, so the top two teams get first round byes

C'mon people, let's start discussing these because by the time we start these discussion it will be draft time.

My favorite parts of the game are.....

*Receptions;
- 1pt for each reception by a RB, TE, or a WR
- 0.1pts for each receiving yard (which I like a LOT more than 1pt for 10yds flat because it acts like a tie-breaker more times than not)
- 6pts for a TD
- 2pts for a 2pt conversion reception

*Rushing;
- 0.1yds per yard rushed (like above this helps with the tie breakers if you have a guy that had 107 yards vs. a guy with 106.
- 6pts for a TD
- 2pts for a 2pt conversion rush

*QB passing;
- 20yds = 1pt instead of 25yds, but this is fine either way.
- TD = 6pts. I like 6pts. 4 might not be enough, and the QB is an important spot to have with a lot of teams using the RB by committee now recently which lowers the total amount of points for someone who didn't get a top RB that is used play by play.

*Minus points;
- -2pts int
- -2pts fumble loss
- -0.1-99999999pts depending on how many lost yds rushing or receiving.

*Kicking;
- 3pts for a 00-39.99999yds
- 4pts for a 40-49.99999yds
- 5pts for a 50-59.99999yds
- 6pts for a 60+yd FG (which never really happens so this is probably out of the question)

*Defense has always been fine with me with;
- sack 1pt
- fumble recovery 2pts
- defensive int 2pts
- Defensive points system has always been good with me losing more points as the opposing offense scores on them

*I also like the idea of a blocked punt, kick, or FG = 1pt or 2pts.

*Return yards/Return TDs
- I don't like this idea and don't think it should be used. It's too hard to scout guys outside of Devin Harris and the guy that plays for Carolina.

WAIVER:
As for the discussion above I like the waiver idea. I was actually one of the people who was able to watch all the games (NFL League Pass) and was able to see if a guy got injured, and was one of the first people to pick up a FA. I didn't think this was totally fair that I got a chance to pick up someone just because I was able to see all the games. So I am all for it. It makes people use better judgment in re: to their roster management.

PASS TD=4PTS:

No.. I don't like this.. A lot of teams use a RB by committee now and if you are drafting last the odds are you are going to take a chance at a project RB, but with your next pick you might try and pick up one of the best QBs that would still be available to make up for some points that you are losing to the guy that got one of the top "every down" RB. So getting a good QB will help make up for it. 20-25yds a point for passing is cool, and 6pts for a passing TD is great for me with a -2pts for int/fumble.

So I vote no to the 4pt passing TD. :)

REDUCING PLAYOFF TEAMS FROM 8 TO 6:
I don't mind this. My team really didn't deserve to be there last year. The only thing I don't like about this is that you have 3-4 teams that usually have the playoffs in the bag after about the 8th week. This leaves less spots available and virtually eliminates a couple 2-6 teams which might put a damper on how active they become. I am not saying everyone will do this, but there have been instances in the past that teams that are finished kind of quit on their team, and might leave a bye in a starting spot. Teams that are actually fighting might have an unfair advantage over another that plays against someone who forgot about their team. I kind of like the struggle, but I am either way on this 6 or 8 team thing. I prefer 8, but can live with 6.

Something else:
I hope this year someone that's out of the playoffs does not drop their whole team.. With this waiver thing happening it might screw things up, and give someone an unfair advantage. So nobody (I hope) drop thair team when they are done please?

C'mon people, let's start discussing these because by the time we start these discussion it will be draft time.

1. I don't care.
2. No
3. I prefer 8. I don't think the top teams should automatically get a bye.

1. Waiver claim - Yes please!
2. No, for good reasons that have already been posted.
3. I also like 8 teams. Why should you be afraid of an upset? It's fantasy football, if your team is hot, then they're hot, regardless of position. I've been on both ends of the battle. Sure, it stings to lose to the number 8 team, but you'll live.

Are we running with 14 teams or 12? If 12, I'd prefer 6 playoff teams, if 14, 8 playoff teams.

I want the waiver thing if Yahoo puts it in.

I'm against the 4 pt QB TD.

I prefer fractional point scoring.

Hey Rock, sorry it took a minute for me to sign up, was both under the weather, and out of town on family stuff alot the last week or so. But glad I'm in now, though.:) Anyway, in a league like this, I always liked the 6 playoff team format with the top 2 getting bye's...but then again, in my $$$ league I only have 4 playoff teams with all teams playing, no bye's. Either way works for me. the 8 or 6. I always liked the traditional 6 pts for a QB, too...and all TD's scored, for that matter...also, so the only rushing pts a back(or any player for that matter)can get would be .1 for every yd? I always had it 1 pt for every 10 yds rushed, and .2 for every attempt, but hey, I'm more than happy to adapt. Anyway, just my 2 cents...I look forward to another fun season!

Delayed waiver wire doesn't seem like a bad idea to me, but I don't know how you implement it since Yahoo doesn't seem to offer that option. Also, I definitely think that reducing the pass TD score from 6 to 4 is a good idea (just to keep Brady/Manning/Romo from so outgunning the elite RB's that they all go in the first few picks of the draft), and the 6 team playoffs also sounds good considering it rewards the 1 & 2 seeds with bye weeks that they have probably earned, but obviously an 8 team playoff is a little bit more unpredictable and exciting...

Bigdog sent me a PM on June 26 and says he is playing and I noticed he hasn't been on line since then. Hopefully, he will sign up soon.

I'm going to keep the discussion going a little longer to see if maybe more people might think of other suggestions.

I'm going to wait one more week until August 10th, and if bigdog hasn't signed up by then, I'm going to have 1 spot opened.
