Keys to beating The Sun

#1
I hate starting threads But I felt we needed to get this one started...

Personally I believe the keys are the same as the keys for the Comets Series.

Except for a few things.

1) Pressure the Point guard whoever is on the Floor.

2) The Back to Back format of the first 2 games favors the Monarchs. Use the entire bench. Pressure... Pressure... Pressure... Run... Run... Run...

3) Steal a game in Conn. Preferably Game 1. This team has improved drastically since the Sun last saw us. Seeing them on film is a lot different than playing them.

4) Same effort from the Guard core. They were great against the Comets.

Okay I got it started... Help me out folks

1) Be agressive and try to get the Sun into foul trouble, especially their post players. Plain and simple, their bench is not strong.

2) Pressure the ball/point guard and try to make Katie Douglas bring the ball up and run the show. Tire her out bringing the ball up the court and make her shooting less effective.

3) Make this game "ugly". Don't let the Sun get into any offensive flow and frustrate them.

The Taj/Yo match-up will be the key. We take away the inside game & I feel we will win. If we let them dominate the paint, we could struggle. Maybe we press a bit more, get them to run down the shot clock. Defense will win this series. We have the best D.

Should be a classic....Let's all come out on Sunday & rock Arco! Go Monarchs!!!

I have to admit, I do not know much about Conneticut at all. I did see them in person the night that they beat the Monarchs at Arco. And I walked out of the arena that night wondering how did the Monarchs lose to that team. The Sun also beat the Monarchs last year at Arco and I walked out of the gym and did not understand that either.

I do not know what it is that makes them so good. I mean Whalen is a good offensive player and she runs that offense with precision, but she is the only player on that team that stand out as a serious threat and she is not even suppose to play. Yo handles Dydek everytime they play and NY-Kesha Sales is a good player. Other than that I can not understand what makes them so good to the point that they were 13-1 against the West this season.

I will say that in my opinion it comes down to the Monarchs two strengths:

1. Defense
2. Bench Depth

Monarchs in four.

Interesting info from WNBA.com
Fact or Fiction question:

(asked before Whalen's injury)

After falling short in '04, Connecticut will win the WNBA Finals.

Nancy Lieberman
Fiction: The Monarchs will win in five. The Sun's success relies very heavily on four starters reaching double figures in scoring. But they don't have the balance of the Monarchs. Sacramento's bench gives the Monarchs scoring, rebounding, great defense and plenty of energy. The Monarchs will slow down the Sun's transition game and prevent them from getting a lot of easy layups and short jumpers. The Monarchs will also be able to dominate the boards, which will make Connecticut a half-court team and force the Sun to really earn their baskets. Sacramento's team defense -- its biggest strength -- can also really wear down opponents.

Mechelle Voepel
Fiction: I'm picking Sacramento in four. Offensive rebounding will decide the champion, and the Monarchs have an edge there, with Yo Griffith, DeMya Walker and Rebekkah Brunson all terrific on the offensive glass. If they aren't checked, the Sun won't be able to stop the Monarchs. All of the Sun players have to find a way to combat that.
