Keegan "Keegan Murray" Murray signs a 5-year 140 million Extension

Can’t wait for someone to tell us how this is an overpay

Wouldn't call this a bargain, but probably about the correct price for a starting wing with his defensive acumen and maybe he figures out how to take a leap offensively to actually being a #2-#3. Which, for the Kings, is a christmas miracle we don't have to pay a 30-40% tax to keep him in town.

Regardless, if the Kings ever want to be good in the next 5+ years, Keegan has to be here.

it’s right around the Jaden McDaniels contract accounting for cap inflation which is more than fair value imo.

Well this is, indeed, some pretty good news. Price point is a bit high, but I'll not quibble considering that any future the Kings have as a sustainable playoff contender requires Keegan to earn that payday and then some. Now they just need to clear some shots out of their starting lineup so we can see what he's got as an offensive talent. He's gotta be more than a fourth option for this team.

Some may say it’s an overpay for a guy that can’t reliably create his own shot to be a #3 option. That being said, he’s an elite 3 and D wing, a highly valuable archetype in the modern NBA. The contract is more or less in line with the market. I’m happy for Keegan and the Kings. That’s one less uncertainty to deal with.

Hope his shot comes back. Cuz this money assumes it

Was 37.9% from Jan 1 to the end of the season at 6.2 3PA/game over 44 games.

58.6% TS in Jan
61.4% TS in Feb
59.4% TS in March
47.6% TS in April (4 games)

He was straight up awesome the 2nd half of the year. The hope was he could continue to build on that offensive success while maintaining the defensive prowess.

That’s me. He better re-learn how to shoot or else we’re paying a defensive role player like an ace. The dude is nowhere near an all-star… he hasn’t shown signs he’ll ever get there either.
If it's straight 28M across the board it comes out to about 16.4% of the salary cap in the first year and goes down from there. If it's an increasing contract it might start below 15% of the salary cap and stay there. MLE is worth about 9% of the salary cap so he's not even double that, for 5 years.

Yeah, I'm OK with this.

Just posted it, 38% on his last 274 3PA to close last year. 44 game sample.

All the signs pointed to him figuring out the offensive end to close last season. Just a damn bummer he doesn't get to show it to open this year.

We better stop getting the awful “He can’t shoot because he’s asked to do soooooo much” rhetoric from Kayte now. It’s just expected with this money.

Now let's see the front office lock up Keon Ellis.

Keegan may be the biggest winner of the Fox fiasco as I'm not sure that this amount of money would have been there after we max Fox. This is the first real sign that our new front office may indeed have a long-term plan that's worth a damn. They need to retain Keon Ellis now when he becomes extension eligible but there's still hope that we may emerge from this "gap year" in a decent position to avoid a scorched Earth "Sam Hinkie" type of rebuild.
