JJ Hickson Bought Out

Well here was trade thread:

Here was my inital repsonse when all that had been reported was Omri for Hickson without mention of the pick:

Here was the no brainer remark:

this was my last on the substance of the trade:
I'm impressed.

1. You chose the correct profession.

2. You seem to have successfully maintained some degree of impunity.

3. I actually think you would be a better GM than at least 75% of what's out there.

4. If I was facile at fetching quotes, I would have bothered to do the research and then opted not to post. But I'm too lazy to figure out how.

I presume that means we didn't lose a penny.
For the rest of the season, yes. He had 48 hours to sit on the waiver wire. If he is claimed in those 48 hours, that team must pay his remaining salary. If he is not claimed, he will have "cleared waivers" and is treated like a free agent and can sign with any team. Portland wanted to give him a shot I guess.

Interesting. I was not expecting that. I suppose that means that whatever the terms of the buyout were, they are voided because Portland has taken over the contract?

At any rate, we don't need to worry about being under the minimum. If we are, it's by a few tens of thousands of dollars. The penalty is we have to pay that difference in salary out to the players (Larry Coon's FAQ says "the players" so it is unclear whether this means players on our team or all league players). No biggie.
