Is Willie Cauley-Stein still an option at center for Sacramento Kings?

New scenery might not even help WCS to become the better player he thinks he is. Most coaches in the NBA don't have a degree in Psychology which I think is needed to get WCS to accept reality of the type of player he could become (not a Davis, but a defensive stud with rebounds and blocked shots and 75% FT shooting). I hope that Vlade has a good defensive center in his sights (ie., Valanciunas or Dedmon). WCS is a very gifted athletic and has gotten where he is with his talent and not his hard work. This is where his ego enters, and because of that, it definitely is time for a new team for WCS. If he walks without a sign and trade, then his loss amounts to cap space where we can sign a better center to match our needs.

That sucks. We are losing a center that fits our team because of misplaced criticism about interior defense and rebounding. With WCS gone we will still have a porous permeter (even more so!) and subtracting 8.5 rebounds per game will not help the rebounding numbers.

Misplaced? Did you fall asleep during 60% of this past season?

He has his faults but I would not say he sucks. I think he was pretty good and improving...

How long does it take to be consistent? He’s been in the league enough and has had plenty of chances. enough already

I did find a couple that suggest that he works hard (below, although I acknowledge these are fluff pieces).

Now, I think we could argue whether his hard work is paying off or whether he fits the team or whether he will continue to improve, but some of these labels that he is disengaged or selfish or has a poor work ethic are misplaced.

I think what you're missing is that he could be much more than what he is if he had the motivation some players with less natural talent have. He coasted at times last year to the point where he was totally useless. He has been given the benefit of every doubt. He hasn't risen to the challenge. Instead, he has whined about not being given enough chances? Please.

I would rather have Jack Cooley on the squad at this point. At least he gives his all every time he steps onto the court.

The fact that we're pretty much having the same discussion AFTER his contract year should tell you something. Nothing has changed! He's still inconsistent and still wants to be an offensive star.

I was hoping to off him to someone at the trade deadline but also unfortunately understand that we at that time were optimistic about making the playoffs.

Now he’s really showing everyone and I truly believe that includes future potential teams that he only thinks about himself to go along with all his other problems.

I hate to not get anything in return for a player but we don’t need him and at this point I consider the 12 million or so he thinks he’s worth money saved towards a more dedicated, loyal and better option.
