All I can say about the Douby pick is that obviously Petrie knows something we don't because with our roster, Douby is one o fthe las people I figured we'd go after. But, we all know Petrie's draft history, so like many others have said..I guess we'll just have to see what happens when the season starts.
 
Im not very happy because Petrie has not done anything with this roster for a while now save the Maloofs and getting rid of Peja for Artest which was really Joe and Gavins thing. I see people moving pieces around but Im surprised Petrie is standing put again. Im hoping this summer he gets busy and by that I mean moving his 4$$. :\
 
Douby is probably an insurance policy. And really, the only skill he needs to back up Bibby is bring the ball up. If this guy ends up being the next Ray Ray, then none of you will complain.
 
i was initially pissed w/ the pick... another SG?? But if the guy's a player and they use him to spell bibby, than I can live w/ it. But Petrie's got to move Miller and Thomas if this team ever has a chance to win. I mean that is the point of all this, right? To win a championship?

Unfortunately, the chances of getting a good center in the FA market are slim, Chicago has $15m and can overspend on anyone. So unless they sign BWallace, we don't have a chance at Pryzbilla.

So do your job Petrie and stop drafting SGs!!
 
for the last time...quincy douby is not a shooting guard. he's a point guard who shoots, and is similar to mike bibby in that respect. at 6'3", you will never see douby starting consistently through an entire nba season at the two-guard spot. he may play alongside bibby often as matchup dictate, but make no mistake, the kings drafted quincy douby as a backup PG and electrifying scorer.

Also, Petrie has already said a number of times he and Muss are seeking interior defense and a back-up PG. Whether Douby or Petrie saying "occasionally to spell Bibby" is that? We shall see.

Last 5 years? Put the finishing touches on a contender. Contender fell due to age and injuries, and he rebuilt on the fly. Pieces in place for another possible contender although certainly not there yet.

The team isn't as good as it was 5 years ago, but its certainly better than it was the last two years.

The coach of Rutgers was on the Rise Guys this morning and said that QD has never played point guard. But he felt he could learn it with some time to adjust to a point guards thinking. He said he's a scorer, not a passer. I'll agree that he's a point guards size....but lets be careful about calling him a point guard

I think this is a semantics thing. Douby brought the ball up the floor and guarded the other team's smallest player. To me, that makes him a point guard. I think what people are saying is that he's not a "pure" or "traditional" point guard in that his job wasn't to create opportunities for others. But that doesn't mean he wouldn't be the Kings' backup PG, he'd just be a scoring point guard rather than the traditional distribution kind.
 
I actually see a lot of Eddie House in Quincy Douby. They both like to shoot the ball from outside and score a lot of points. They both are undersized guards who have a quick release. I think Douby is gonna turn out to be either a Eddie House or a Salim Stoudamire type of player.

Umm- within the last YEAR the man traded BJax for Bonzi which worked out pretty damn well, he brought in SAR for the MLE (which was a pretty good move as well, especially if SAR accepts being a 6th man), he traded for Jason hart (a move that was almost unanimously praised on this board); he traded Skinner for Monia and Potapenko; he traded Peja for Artest (whether you want to credit him for that or not); drafted Garcia and Douby; signed Sampson and Price.

Not all of the moves are splashy, but you can't say he has done nothing with the roster for quite awhile.

yes, some of the moves I listed were largely irrelevant (Sampson, Price, Skinner trade), and some were mandatory (he had to draft players); but in the last calander year he has made moves for FOUR rotation players that have impacted this team for better or worse- Bonzi, SAR, Artest, and Hart.

We might not be getting better (which is debatable because I think Bonzi, SAR, and Artest are much better than BJax, Peja, and whoever we would have gotten for the MLE), but it is unfair to say Geoff is standing pat...

House doesn't create his own shot. House isn't as versatile a scorer as Douby. House isn't as long or as athletic as Douby. House doesn't try and frustrate his man on defense. House is 6'1". I've never seen Eddie House get in a wide, defensive stance like Ron Artest. :p

House is an undersized SG who can handle the ball, spot-up/off-screen shooter.

I see Douby being like a Terry-B-Jax-Arenas, somewhere in there/in between.

Yea but i just don't see him being able to create his shot much in the NBA. guys like him who used to e able to create their own shots lose that in the NBA. NBA defense is a lot different then college defense. His limited minutes and touches are gonna pretty much make him a catch and shoot type of player until he gets 2-4 years of experience.

martin & garcia :) the other years we didn't even have draft picks. another reason is we dumped a large sump of $$ on spider webber which really didn't give us any room to be a big player in FA signings.
i hope petrie picked up another good player in douby. it sounds like he has some jason terry potential. thats one element that the kings are missing in their attack. a player that can break down the other teams defense and get in the lane.
 
I think Petrie subscribes to the school of thought when drafting where you pick the most talented player available (especially in the mid to late rounds) and not to fill your biggest need. The rationale being that if you focus on need, you'll eventually mold a roster with lesser talent but with all of the holes filled.

Pretty sure he figures to build a team of the most superior talent possible and if that leaves holes in your roster, then those issues will be addressed through FA acquistion or trade...and let's not forget unforseen injury.

Was sure nice to have solid players in place behind Bonzi and SAR last year. No one anticipated the amount of time they would be unavailable.

Looking back at last year's 23rd pick would rather have had an overlapped player in Francisco Garcia, than fill a need with a player like Johan Petro.
 
Everyone is talking about how this affects Bonzi. Am I the only one thinking the acquisition of Quincy Douby just might make Jason Hart redundant?

You are definately not the only one. If I were Jason Hart I would be more concerned about the Maloofs comments a few weeks back regarding the team's need for a backup PG. Jason-the writing is on the wall. Now, we have to just find someone, anyone willing to take him. I think that he will be packaged with someone to get a backup C.

At this point I dont care what they get for him....just do it.
 
At this point, they could actually "Brent Price" him and only be out $1 million or so...

Not that I'm advocating paying someone to NOT show up.

Realistically, the most likely scenarios are either getting a 2nd round pick or cash considerations for him or packaging him with others to get a big. Milwaukee was interested in KT last year and with the likely departure of Mo Williams they need a backup pg...so let's get one of their bigs i.e. Maglore and call it a day.

There's someone who probly wants him. Expiring contract, decent defense, they won;t get much, but they can probly get something. He's not a bad part in a bigger deal.
