I'm confused. Why is this a big deal?

This article says that 10% of the corporate sponsorship money that KJ helped the Maloofs get, wound up going to Thing Big. I don't see a problem with that. Of course, that's just the business side of me thinking. 90% of $10 million is better than 100% of zero....

My gut instinct is that this is another situation where someone within MSE has played the "whistleblower" in an attempt to discredit Mayor Johnson.

That funding stemmed from an arrangement worked out by Johnson, and agreed to by the Kings, that stipulated that 10 percent of the millions of dollars in corporate sponsorships the mayor helped raise for the franchise last spring would be funneled into his Think Big committee.
"Funneled" is a loaded word. Since the Think Big committee was working hard to find a way to keep the Kings in Sacramento AND get an arena deal in the process, having 10% of the sponsorships KJ and his group were able to obtain go to Think Big to help them in their efforts seems eminently fair to me.

Have I mentioned lately how my skin continues to crawl every time I see or read or hear more of these attempts at character assassination of Mayor Johnson? I could be wrong, but it certainly seems like a fairly shallow attempt by the Maloofs to discredit what KJ was able to do.

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and has webbed feet...
