Iguodala, Kirilenko, and 1st Round Pick

All-Star
As most of us can see the team has been struggling the entire year. Our team lacks many things that must be improved upon to get this team going in the right direction. I am a very patient man. I know these sort of teams take time, and I am willing to wait for Evans and Cousins to mature into the stars they are meant to be. With that being said, I still think we need to make some changes around here starting with the SG, SF, and PF spots.

Our point guard and shooting guard spots have had some debates on this forum. Some believe Thornton is the answer at SG and others think Evans should be the SG with Jimmer or Thomas as the PG while Thornton gets moved to the bench . Personally, I like Evans as the PG. He has shown that he is capable of running an offense. He is able to penetrate with ease which is constantly forcing the opposing team’s defense to collapse on him. As time goes by, he will get even better at dishing out to open teammates while he is driving. His defense is also shown flashes of greatness, and his height, length, and strength will allow him to overwhelm most if not all PGs in this league.

Our shooting guard spot in the past has been lacking ever since we got rid of Martin. Then we got Thornton last year and he was one of the few bright spots for us, but is he an ideal fit for this team? His selfishness has hindered this team. It’s frustrating how much he likes to go one on one. He has the mindset that he is the best player on the team when he is the 3rd best player. He is kind of like Salmons in that regard. I’m not saying Evans doesn’t show selfishness at times, but at least he is capable of running an offense. Also Thornton’s size and defense don’t seem to do this team much justice either. That’s why I recommend we trade Thornton for Iguodala. The trade would look like this:

Thornton
Garcia

For

Iguodala

Before the season began, the Sixers were looking to trade Iguodala. They were looking to get a pure scorer for him. I’m pretty confident Thornton fits that bill. They are currently starting Meeks at SG so Thornton will be a nice upgrade for them there. With the absence of Iguodala, Turner and Young can take over the majority of the SF minutes. Also when Garcia comes off the books at the end of next season they will have an extra 6 million in cap space.

The Kings could slot Iguodala in at the 2 right next to Evans. Iguodala would bring a lot to this team. His passing and facilitating skills are great, his defense is excellent, and he is a superb rebounder for his position. His veteran presence and his defensive mentality would be a great influence on our young players.

Now that we have solved our SG spot, let’s move to our SF position. Obviously Salmons is not the answer. We just traded away Garcia. Greene is still a big question mark. Outlaw has been playing poorly so far. Honeycutt is not ready. It is apparent that we must find a SF outside of our organization. This coming offseason, Kirilenko will be back and ready to sign with an NBA team. If we amnesty Salmons, release Hickson, and sign our draft picks. We will have around 10 million in cap room. We can go after Kirilenko with this money, and if 10 million is not enough we can release Greene to have a couple more million to work with. If we can’t get Kirilenko on a 3 year 30 million deal, then we can go after Batum with some of our cap space. Kirilenko would be another great addition to this team. Like Iguodala, His passing, rebounding, and defense are all good and he doesn’t need many shots.

Our PF position right now is currently manned by Hayes, but most of us would prefer an athletic shot blocker next to Cousins. Lucky for us this draft has many. We have a good shot at cracking the top 5 again at the level our team is playing at. Davis, Drummond, Robinson, P. Jones, and Henson are all good candidates. Considering we will most likely be top 5, Davis, Drummond, or Robinson looks like the likely choice. If we signed our draft pick to around 4.5 million for the first year, it would still leave us 10 million to go after Kirilenko.

The King’s roster will look like this if they pull all of this off:

PG – Evans/6’6”/220 Thomas
SG – Iguodala/6’6”/207 Fredette
SF – Kirilenko/6’9”/235 Greene, Outlaw, Honeycutt
PF – Davis/6’10”/220 Hayes
C – Cousins/6’11”/270 Thompson, Whiteside

This team has the potential to do great things. They might possibly have some of the best perimeter defense next to the Heat. Evans, Iguodala, and Kirilenko all can limit penetration into the paint. If they do get into the paint, Kirilenko is a good shot blocker, Cousins has been improving in the block department this year, and Davis is on pace to break the college block record. Also the size and wingspan of every one of these players is gigantic. This will make the passing lanes that much smaller for opposing teams forcing them to turn the ball over. The passing with this team will be much improved because Iguodala and Kirilenko are both very unselfish and great passers. Match that with the passing ability of Evans and Cousins and you have a very good passing team. This team ‘s meal ticket would definitely be defense. That would be a nice change of pace don’t you think?

Philly isn't going to dismantle the team they've got this year to make a bad deal.
