I'd like to ask everyone who might be driving into the foothills, the mountains, or anywhere else where there are lots of dry grasses, etc. to please be careful.

The fire danger is very high and we're only in the first month of the fire season. Late rains helped contribute to more growth, which has - in turn - now dried out, making more fuel for potential wildland fires.

It may be an old saw to some, but it's true - Only you can help prevent forest and wildland fires.

• Make sure you don't throw cigarettes out of your vehicle. Most parks and recreational areas don't allow smoking off trails or in wilderness areas. Please follow their rules.

• If you have to pull over to the side of the road for anything, make sure your car isn't parked on dry grass.

• If you're camping, follow all rules and regulations. Don't start campfires outside of allowable areas and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER leave a campfire unattended.

Remember, wildland fires don't care what they burn. They can spread quickly and they can, with proper winds, outrun vehicles, and certainly anything with legs.

Please be careful. Our state depends upon it.

As a lover and user of our land, especially in your area. This year could be a bad one.

Whats weird is we had a late thaw. I would think everything still has some moisture in it. I know thats not the case and that thinking may be what makes the fire season crazy.

we realize you're only visiting, but remember we live here
when you have a campfire please stay very near
please be very careful not to burn OUR home down,
remember when you leave to make sure the fire's complete out
