If the once-lowly Cardinals can rise up from despair, why can't the Lions (Kings)?

"The Cardinals are 59 seasons removed from their last league championship. They were 58 seasons removed from their last league title game appearance, losing the NFL crown to Philadelphia in 1948.

The Lions' 50-season absence from participating in a league championship game now ranks third among professional sports teams, following the Chicago Cubs' 63-year drought since its last World Series appearance in 1945 and the Sacramento Kings franchise's 57-year absence from the NBA Finals. The Kings were known as the Rochester Royals in 1951."

Heh --I was wondering that exact thing when I was watching the Cardinals win yesterday and they flashed up the stat about them being on the second longest championshipless streak in North American sports. Was wondering if they won it where that would leave us. Guess I know now -- if the Cubbies were to ever *gasp* actually win a Series, we might actually have a shot to become the new infamous lovable losers on the block. Better to be famous for something, right? Right?? ;)

Note that this has been picked up on by someone else -- from Marc Stein's latest NBA Power Rankings:

28 (27) Kings 10-31 The Arizona Cardinals of the NBA? According to ESPN Research, it's the Kings. This franchise, dating to its Royals days, has persisted for 57 seasons without a title, just shy of the Cards' 61-season title drought.
