Okay, so I'm bored at work and was doing some thinking. Portland is sitting on the first pick in the draft, and has their pick of either Durant (most project he'll go there) or Oden. Assuming they pick Durant to play SF, and that they give him the money one can expect, what do you lot think of this prospective deal?
POR GETS:
C Brad Miller
PF Kenny Thomas
PG Quincy Douby
SAC GETS:
C Joel Przybilla
SF Darius Miles
PG Dan Dickau
SG Martell Webster
WHY POR DOES IT:
They get rid of horrid contracts to Miles and Przybilla, who also adds to the glut of Centers they have. Miller doesn't help in that regard, but he does provide a veteran presence and interior passing- something they lack. Thomas is there simply for depth and the expiring, and can be there for no other reason than that we're taking on Miles.
WHY SAC DOES IT:
The Kings gain depth at nearly every position, and get a young center they desperately need, as well as cover at SF and SG in Webster. While taking Miles is always a precarious proposal, the thinking here is
that he'll get lost in his starting role and not have time to be a problem. Dickau provides vet coverage for Bibby, and Webster is the casualty of the Blazers bringing back Outlaw and keeping Roy at SG. Here he can add depth and flexibility, as well as bench scoring- a dire need.
Add this deal to the above:
NY GETS:
SF Ron Artest
SAC GETS:
PF Malik Rose (ETO option)
And the team is this:
C- Przybilla
PF- Abdur-Rahim
SF- Miles
PG- Bibby
SG- Martin
--------
6- Salmons, SF
7- Webster, SG
8- Thornton/Wright/Jianlian, PF
9- Williams, C
10- Garcia, SG
11- Rose, PF
12- Dickau, PG
Younger, tougher, and more dynamic. Also a little more volatile, but hey, what's that after what we've seen before, right? And one big deal with one minor, a solid draft, and some expirings. No major overhaul needed....
PORTLAND LINE-UP:
C- Aldridge/Miller/LaFrentz
PF- Randolph/Thomas/La Frentz
SF- Durant/Outlaw/Udoka
PG- Jack/Rodriguez/Douby
SG- Roy/Roy/Roy
