I need a new gas BBQ grill - any ideas?

Any recommendations for a relatively inexpensive gas grill? Maybe $200-$300 or so?

The one I got as a wedding gift (in 2000) is getting old and at a minimum the grilling surface needs to be replaced. I think my wife would be open to getting me one for my upcoming birthday. I don't grill too often, mainly steaks, chicken, burgers, and sausages during get-togethers, etc.

What should I look for?

From what I gather, porcelin-coated or stainless steel grilling surfaces are the best.

I found this:

Any other suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks!

Porcelin is a nice grilling surface, but you MUST keep it clean (like you are supposed to) Otherwise, you will bake matter on to the grill. There is a special, smooth metal cleaning tool you can use to clean it, but it is not as effective as a wire brush on a metal grill. Other positive about porcelin, since it does not rust, you can wash it in the sink.

if you go gas, you should just save the money and fry it....tastes about the same...

otherwise, do what the men do: get a charcoal grill. a little extra work, a ton of extra flavor.

I agree Dave. I had a fairly expensive to run and maintain gas grill for about ten years until it broke down a couple of summers ago. I replaced it with a relatively inexpensive charcoal grill ($30 at WalMart) and could not be happier. I spend about $60 annually on charcoal and lighter fluid (best prices at Sam's or Costco), various meats taste as good or better - especially with some hickory wood chips added to the coals.

I had a charcoal grill before the gas one and just prefer the speed and simplicity of gas - I got things to do. And frying it is nothing like cooking on a gas grill. ;)

I have a charcoal grill with gas start and it is the best of both worlds. Great taste and a no fuss start. Its the Weber Performer model, it usually runs around $300 but you can find them on sale frequently.

I got a new BBQ yesterday - in the process of assembly right now.

Got a 4-burner Turbo Classic from Barbecues Galore on sale. We actually have our propane service stubbed out and capped off at 3 locations outside the house, so now we need to find where we want to put it for now and hook it up as soon as I get all the parts together....
