I remember walking to my seat and feeling the buzz in the arena as they were warming up to face the Liberty. That was the first time I saw Rebecca Lobo, and boy is she tall!!! Relative to me, 5'3", everyone was tall!

Wow....look what 10 years has done.....besides tripling the ticket prices, we are champions.....:D

My very first game was at home vs. the Liberty back in 1998. It just fills me with such pride to think of how far they've come since then! :D

I attended the very first Monarch PRE-SEASON game at the Sacramento memorial Autotorium against I believe it was the old Utah Starzz.

The admission that night was exactly $1.00. I won't say that i was hooked, but I did go to 6 or 7 games a year. But then my wife got hooked around 1999. In 2004 we were season ticket holders, last year we made our first road trip to Phoenix at the end of the season. Now this year not only do we have season tickets....

.....I am on my way to Madison Square Garden for the game on July 6th and D.C. on july 7th.

Back in 2000, I attended a Educator preview of "Jordan to the Max" at the Esquire-IMAX Theatre. A couple of days later, I got a phonecall saying that my raffle ticket had be chosen for a doorprize.

When I arrived, they handed me a WNBA ball signed by the entire 1999-2000 Monarchs team. It was Yolanda's rookie year and my first year of being a diehard Monarchs fan.

:D

I almost forgot about that game at Memorial Auditorium...I went to that one too. The line was just about around the block when I was finally able to get there. I sat next to some obnoxious girls, and ended moving before halftime - maybe that's why I didn't initially remember it!! It was sure great to see them playing......

I have attended since Edna Campbell gave free passes to a game to all survivors in 2004. I bought 2005 season tickets and again this year. Before that, I had never heard of the Monarchs. I don't remember who we were playing, but I saw the talent and the passion and loved it. I am totally captivated by girls using their bodies in healthy ways to win and get paid to do it!! And the energy. And the fans. And the Rap Kids. And Monty. Is it PURPLE yet?

Love this flashback time! Adia Barnes-she was my favorite M my first season as a fan. Franthea Price, Nadine Domond, Katy Steding, Kate Starbird. And my HS classmate, Danielle Viglione, whom I never got to see since she was gone by the time I became a fan. Plus Cindy Blodgett and Heather Burge-the most inept two players in WNBA history so far. In saying that, those Blodgett psycho-fans are long gone from this forum, I hope.

Lets see..

First WNBA game I had ever seen on tv was june of 2002, Comets @ Fire.

First game I ever attended was Comets @ Monarchs in july of 2002.

Been in love with the WNBA ever since. :) goin on my 5th year.

Burge might have been inept, but as much as I had grown to despise her cult-like fans I wouldn't put Blodgett in that category. She got caught up in the ABL-influx and was pushed out of the league.

I followed the team the first year via radio. I was in grad school at the time and commuting to the Bay Area so I had little time to do much of anything that first year. Plus I was a bitter fan of the ABL.

I didn't get to ARCO until the 2nd year once they drafted Ticha and got over the heartache she caused me as a Stanford fan. My first game was against NY so's I could see Lobo in person and I was hooked by the energy of the arena. I went back for a game against Detroit and then for the Cleveland game and someone had an extra seat they sold me as I walked up towards the box office so I got a seat next to them on the floor a couple of rows behind the Monarchs bench, and let me tell you that was an experience I'll never forget the fans I hung with were GREAT!!. :) I was deeply touched by the love affair the fans in the arena had with Ruthie Bolton as she came out of the tunnel on crutches each night after she had torn her ACL. I bought tickets for the rest of the season right afterwards and have been a STH ever since.

I don't recall Blodgett ever being able to do more than be a great 3-pt. shooter. She was very slow and couldn't play defense worth a lick. Of course that was years ago so maybe my memory is kinda fuzzy and I've forgotten more positive things about her.

Well, I think I started paying a little attention in 1999. I was at the height of my J-Will obsession and could NOT get enough basketball. I kept talking about going to a game. Didn't make it to one until 2000 though. My boyfriend bought me tickets for the game that was on my actual birthday and we had great seats. We were instantly addicted. We bought single game tickets for the rest of the season. Instantly loved Ticha and Yo, and I can remember instantly HATING Debbie Black! (I loved hating her though, on occasion, I do miss The Pest). Anyways, we bought season tickets for the next season. And I have been a STH ever since.

I am proud to have never missed a Monarchs home game! Went to all the pre-season games as well. Memorial, Stocton, and I want to say Chico?
A group of us have also attended all the WNBA All-Star games.

So this year will be a very special time. As we honor all the ledgends of the game, as well the current players paving the way & making Womens basketball history. I love the game & all fans . It really brings me so much happiness!

Well, officially speaking, i've been a Monarchs fan from day one! i luved going to Compaq Center and watching my Comets kick the bajeezuzeses outta the M's in 1997!

oophs,...let me rephrase that

I've been a Monarch's fan since 1999 when my favorite StingRay became a Monarch. Yolanda Griffith! that was the day Sacramento became my home away from home and i found this web site and got my first smacking from Royal Diva to keep me in line! wasn't long after that me and SlugKing were wrestling over Ticha, ...or was that a 'blow-up " doll............anyway....and MBF trying her best to officiate the virtual UFC between us.

seems like just yesterday doesn't it, i miss those days...i'm looking forward to seeing you guys in a couple of weeks.....see ya soon!

Wow, 4play, thanks for that trip down memory lane!! Yes, I remember how fiercely I went after those pesky Comets fans back then when you guys were our biggest rival. I remember back in the 2000 season having Jeremy craft a banner of a Comets logo with 'Dethroned 2000' over it because I was sooo sure that that was going to be the year it was going to happen! But in hindsight, it wasn't so bad waiting five more years. In fact that made it all the more special!

you know, now that i think about it, i think me and MBF might have discussed getting together as a group either before the game or after the game at Joe's Crab Shack. which ever is better for everyone. i know i don't wanna miss the Ring Ceremony at 12:15pm i think and we all gotta get in there and seated so maybe after the game Saturday at Joe's Crab Shack if that is ok with everyone?
