How 'bout that Ostertag!!

Two side notes:

1) Is it just me or as soon as one of these appreciation threads get started, that player's production dwindles a bit?

2) Tag's a hoot and his interviews are funny.:)...But, I have yet to hear an interview where he doens't talk about hunting!

Against big teams Otag should easily do what he did tonight. Faster teams are a little different for him. If nothing else he sets a great screen, and you know how important those are for the Kings. In 7 minutes I don't expect to him to do much if he starts a little off because he never gets the chance to get it going. More minutes tonight is a very positive sign. He'll have his share of clumsy plays but we don't expect him to do much more than hustle and be big.
 
Tag did all we expect him to do,a nd yes against faster teams he will not see much if any court time. Play him enough to get and stay in game shape for the play offs. He ought to come in handy then!
 
sad how you guys even talk about ostertag, him and shawn bradley are one of the worst Centers in the NBA history. just get a migrane seeing him on the floor but he is king now so....Need a lot of asprine.
 
one OK game out of 11, so roughly 7 good games a year, not great, but good.

No wonder he wore and still does a double zero jersey!

Once Ostertag gets a steady 20 minutes a game he'll get his groove back and we'll all be glad he in there protecting our soft white underbelly!
 
As I had said when he was taken by the Kings, he is a good choice by the Kings. And with some more time he should only get better.
 
Heres another thing, and not to knock Brad Miller b/c he is an All-Star without a doubt, but at least Ostertag goes at it on D. He played Yao very well and even better than Brad for the most part (not counting Brads late game D heroics). Brad was too afraid to get a foul and like he normally does he just stood there with his hands up like he was in the middle of a bank robbery. Otag will contest the shot on most attempts. Of course the draw back to playing that way is that he picks up a lot of fouls, but hey if he only gets 14 min a game it doesn't matter if he fouls out. Otag won't beat Jordan one on one but he will fit very well on this squad.

Also look at the plays he was in on that didn't show on the stats. He battled for a couple rebounds inside that were tipped in the Kings favor and effected quite a few shots.

While I thend to agree with you on this, and not to make exuses for Brad but Tag as a back up has the luxiury of picking up fouls willy nilly, while Brad, who has been very foul prone thoughout his career is now in the position as a starter of having to worry more about fuls in order to stay in the game. Gaurding a guy that has 7 inches on you and 25-30 lbs with out fouling is dam hard, down low, almost impossible. Tag's size and limited minuets makes him just the guy to put in for a while against Yao, Shaq, and other domanat big men.
 
He had one good game... after 10 vintage Ostertag games. I, for one, won't get too excited. I still can't believe he's a King.

I have said this before, and I'll say it again: Big Greg Ostertag was an incredible pick-up for y'all, and as he continues to improve and develop chemistry with Miller and CWebb, he may actually become the hinge upon which your playoff hopes swing next April and May...
