House to the Celtics, Decent First Step

The Boston Celtics began filling out their trade-depleted roster Wednesday a day after acquiring Kevin Garnett, agreeing to terms with journeyman guard Eddie House on a one-year, $1.5 million contract.

The Celtics will use a portion of their mid-level exception to sign House, a person involved in the talks told ESPN.com. Boston will still have $3.8 of its exception left.

House, a seven-year veteran who spent last season with the New Jersey Nets, will be joining his eighth NBA team. He is a career 38 percent 3-point shooter.

The signing of House will bring the Celtics' roster up to 13 players, including unsigned second-round draft picks Gabe Pruitt and Glen Davis. Boston made a deal that included two draft picks and five players Tuesday to acquire Garnett from Minnesota. The Celtics surrendered Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Ryan Gomes, Sebastian Telfair and Theo Ratliff in the deal.

Webber! Rumor has it that P.J. Brown is looking to get the full MLE, and the Celtics aren't going to want to pay that. Webb wants a ring, Brown wants to continue to get paid at 38. Joe Smith was had for less, for crying out loud. Dale Davis could likely be had for cheap.

Here's the Free Agency Thread.

I believe Magloire's signed with the Nets. The market for pure centers is pretty thin.

Their bench is wafer-thin at the 2 and 3. Corliss Williamson, Eddie Jones, or Derek Anderson may have something left in the tank, and could probably be had for the LLE or part of the MLE. James Posey would likely cost too much.

How appealing must it be for cheap free agents like Eddie House to go to Boston! You get the chance to play significant minutes and have 3 players that were amongst the league's best for the last 10 years. The Celtics are far from done. Cheap free agent by cheap free agent, Boston's bench is slowly coming along.
