[HOU/ORL] Silent game?

I've always wanted HBO to pick up more live sporting events and do something like this, with mic'd up players and the sounds of the game. Glad someone finally did it, and I hope they continue to do more. Most announcers are extremely annoying and can ruin some games, especially if they are "homers". I've devised a way on my surround sound system where with a particular setting, the announcers are almost muted and the most obvious noises are the crowd and the players.


For those of us who enjoyed the "announcerless" game, is there any way to show our support so more games like this are showed in the future?

I was referring to Vlad's hyperbole; if he is, in fact, in Cambridge, then there's no way that he's "1000 miles" from an NBA city.

I fact, with the Hornets currently in Okalhoma City, I would venture to guess that there's less than ten percent of the continental US that's not within 1000 miles of an NBA city.

The announcerless game has been tried before a number of times in various leagues. I know the NFL has done it once or twice. It never seems to work with the casual fans in primetime and gets shot down. With better sound and picture technology I think more leagues should consider giving viewers the opportunity to choose whether they want the standard announcing or no announcers.

Definitely not for the casual fan, but an option for the "announcerless crowd" would be perfect. I love watching "Sounds of the Game" on the NFL network. It gives the viewer an inside look at how all the coaching goes down and really shows the true side of sports that not many get to see. My mute button is worn out, I need and announcerless alternative.

It was hyperbole, as in, an extravagant exaggeration. People wouldn't have to have gone specifically to the "Magic/Houston" game being played in Orlando in order to find out what a "soundless" NBA game sounds like; all they'd have to do is go to their nearest NBA city.

Going to the game is not always practical, especially if it is 1,000 miles away.

When you make a statement like this, and do not make it clear that you're speaking in generalizations, you're being hyperbolic, especially when you yourself actually live less than ten miles from an NBA team, and "within 1000 miles" of ten others... And, quite frankly, even if you were speaking in generalizations, that statement could still be interpreted as hyperbole, as you would be hard-pressed to find anywhere in the continental US that is actually "a thousand miles" away from an NBA team.

What an awesome concept! I've never even thought about this before but it's truly brilliant. Sometimes I want commentators, but for most games I just want THE GAME - you know, with the sounds of the players, the stadium announcer, and most importantly, the fans. This is something I could definitely get used to and I hope we see more of it.

Yup, I agree. It would seem logical to trial it on the NBA network where there is more likely to be a non-casual fan watching. Even if they decide to not air full games this way, as thesanityannex mentioned, I would be happy even with a cutdown version of one good game every week with mic'd up players and coaches and no announcers like the NFL Network's Game of the Week or Sounds of the Game.
