Hornets May Make Collison Available

How does KF feel about making a call to NO? What would be an ideal deal for the Kings to get Collison and Okafor?

Rival executives will continue to try to convince the Hornets to make Chris Paul available in trades, pointing to the fact that Williams can simply slide the promising Darren Collison and his modest $1.4 million salary into that spot. When those teams get shot down, look for the Hornets -- based on the hints we've received from more than one exec -- to make Collison available as long as the interested party is willing to take back the cap-clogging contract of Emeka Okafor, James Posey or Peja Stojakovic with Paul's backup.

Has to be a thought given that we were already talking about getting Okafor and that terrible contract this past season (and that was without the Colllison sweetener), and of course Collison had been raised, although it was not clear what you would do with him with Reke around (gives an obvious out for opposing teams to guard Reke with bigger players).

Its the sort of move teams with capspace make if they do not consider themsevles serious contenders for top free agents. Absorb a bad contract along with some young talent instead. Especially when the bad contract is the style of player you need to plug a major hole on your team.

Should be noted though that that article was really only half a step up from sheer speculation.

I like Collison, and think he's going to be a solid point guard, but I think his value is a little overstated. NO's home scorekeepers are known for handing out a few extra assists to their point guards per game. Also, he stepped into an offense designed around taking full advantage of a star point guard, so I think he looked a little better there than he would here. That doesn't mean he's not good, of course he is, but the circumstances in NO make him seem a little better than he is. Furthermore, he plays the same position as our best player, and we lose our size advantage with him in the lineup.
