HoopsHype.com 2006 draft - vol. 2

just what we need another guard with our 1st rd pick... NO. we must get a bigman this year that can play defense.

The ONLY reasons for the Kings to draft a gaurd are:
1. As a prlim for a trade that will leave an opening
2. As part of a prearanged trade scenario (very doubtfull)

But hey at this point there is just no way of telling what the needs for next season will be... just too many factors right now.

nbrans, I've seen Morrison play numerous times. He is the real deal. The "slow" and "bad defense" labels are not entirely accurate. He is not fast, but he hustles his butt off. And his defense is not stellar, but it is not awful, and he does steal the ball more than one would think. Plus, Gonzaga plays a lot of zone, so most of the time Morrison is assigned a space instead of a man.

Offensively he is big time. He can hit from all over the court, he gets to the free throw line, he is super aggressive, he is not intimidated by anyone, he demands the ball in crunch time, and he is a leader. He is the most sure thing coming out of this year's draft, assuming he comes out (he is only a junior).

Personally, I think we need a player like LaMarcus Aldridge or Sheldon Williams more. But it would be tough to pass on Morrison if he were available.

Interesting. My boy Haryasz is back in the first round.
I am all for drafting him for the name alone. I love watching the sportsrise show on CSN just to listen to the announcer say Hairy-Assz. :D

What about Leon Powe? I have seen this guys name in the second round. I know he is a little undersized, and has knee issues, but still. He reminds me a lot of Shareef Abdur-Rahim. If only we had a second round pick, he'll be in the first round though I am sure. He is dominant in the low post.

Powe can be a beast, but also soft at times. Stanford played Cal last weekend, and Haryasz scored 24 and 10, Powe had 19 and 10 I think. But the two were not guarding each other for most of the night.

Powe also has been able to score against teams like UCLA which Haryasz struggled against. But Stanford's won three in a row, so it doesn't surprise me to see Matt's name show up now.

Petrie has made it very clear. He DOES NOT draft out of need. He drafts the BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE. Your never going to see Petrie draft 7 footer just because we need a big man. He will draft a 7 footer only because he is the best player available. If a shooting gaurd is the best player on the board thats who he'll draft.

I know its true that Petrie does this, I think he is smart enough in this situation to not only do that. I mean, like someone else said, the only reason for taking a 2-guard would be there was a trade involved. Since we already have Bonzi (although not sure if he will be on the team next year...) and have essentially drafted Shooting Guards the last two years and still have both of them, there is no reason to draft a SG at this point.

I like the big men, as everyone else says...Splitter, Bargani, Aldridge, Paul Davis, Josh Boone, and I especially like Nevadas Nick Fazekas. I've seen him play (on TV of course), and as HoopsHype says, he looks like a really good overall player.

About Leon Powe of Cal, as a Cal fan, I really hope he doesn't come out this year, and he at least gives us one more year to pursue any fantasy of a National Championship. But, if he does enter the draft, look for him to make an impact somewhere, because he has the skill inside (and constantly improving on the outside) and the toughness/desire to play in the NBA.

I'm still banking on him playing until he graduates though :D.
