If you really think that, then everything else you say about basketball is meaningless. Because if you can't tell the difference between Doug Christie and John Salmons defensively then you probably can't tell the difference between Vlade Divac and Darko Milicic. Chris Webber and Jason Thompson seem pretty much the same to you. Horrible, inaccurate comparison.

i think that is a more accurate comparison but i guess u were going for the kings players theme :p

The BIGGEST positive by far is the fact that the Kings are sticking with Tyreke as the PG! It's too soon to give up on him being an orchestrator and the Kings recognize that. Good for them.

The second positive is getting rid of Beno. Something that I've been preaching for three years now. Granted I did not envision a certain ball hog coming back but I guess nothing is perfect.

Third, Kings just draft three kickass players!! Seldom do you get a guy as good as Isiah Thomas w/ the last pick but Kings got lucky.

Really? Battier has been pushed further down the bench, not to mention Kobe is still a better defender. Quit trying to compare christie and salmons D. They are not even close. It's insulting that you would even try to compare them.

I'm sorry, but you can't argue that both Christie and Salmons are great defenders. I also pointed out that their style of defense is completely different.

Battier averaged 31 mins a games for Houston (59 games) last season before being traded to Memphis where his minutes dropped to 24 mins (23 games). I fail to see how his is being pushed down the bench. As for Kobe, he is still a very good defender when he wants to be. However, he rarely plays much defense until the 4th quarter any more. I don't like players should be honored for their defense when you only play it about a 3rd of the time.

I'm conused what you meant in your 1st sentence. I just don't think Salmons is a "great" defender. Doug Christie was a great defender.
Battier's role decreased as time went on for MEM.
As for players being honored for their D, I agree that you shouldn't just make it because of your history or name, that being said, Kobe is still a better defender than Battier.

Beno was just about impossible to trade. How many times have we watched his matador defense???

Beno's defense is so bad Petrie had to move down 3 spots and take on Salmons contract to trade Beno.

Beno's pull up jumper is a thing of beauty and he can make some nifty passes, but who can he guard???

Salmon's defense is on par with Doug Christie. And he can score the ball. This is a good trade for the Kings. If Jimmer's game translates to the NBA right away lots of teams will be kicking themselves.

You guys are so off-base it's pathetic.

You should go over to the Kings Rap section, since over there they apparently don't hear these constant slams on Beno, and think KF's have appreciated Beno for a long time now.

John Salmons contract is as long as Beno's since the 4th is actually a team option.
It also decreases every year which actually makes it a good asset.

If we look at the John Salmons history, he has been having superb performances on his first year after being moved then slowly tails off the succeeding years. He did that in here before and also with the Bucks.

Another good thing about having Salmons is to have a proven veteran that can actually bust our young forwards asses (if somehow, we don't get a full-size SF vet)

Personally, I would like to see Salmons as a SG next to Reke. And hopefully we can trade Garcia and one of kids for another big or more solid SF that won't really give Salmons a chance to play the SF spot. If we can somehow land either Kirelenko, Butler, Prince, or even a trade for Ariza (with maybe Cisco and Casspi), I could see Salmons taking time at the SG spot. And we'll be scary big.

PG - Evans/Fredette/Thomas
SG - Salmons/Thornton
SF - FA/Greene/Honeycutt
PF - Cousins/Whiteside/FA
C - Dalembert/Thompson

We will just have to dissagree about Battier. IMO, has been one of the best perimeter defenders in the league for a while now and would argue that he is better defensively that Kobe. And he plays defense for the whole game, not just the 4th quarter.

I'm quite sure your opinions are largely based on the grade threads, since those are where I often see you defending Beno. And if memory serves me right, I don't think Brick or any of the other knowledgeable posters ever gave Beno much flak on offense, other than that one single period where his shooting was off for awhile. In fact, I recall many threads saying that Beno took over the game for us, that he had learnt to settle into a perfect role setting up Thornton/ deferring to Tyreke and playing off of Cousins, and perhaps sometimes that we could have used him being more aggressive when those 3 weren't playing well. A lot of the bad comments were about him just getting blown by by a lot of opposing guards, to which you and some others argued that NBA PGs get blown by all the time, and that it was the responsibility of team defense to then recover and help etc.

Right now, everyone is saying that we'll miss Beno's consistent performance, that his pullup jumpshot will be missed, his veteran leadership etc. No one is saying that they'll miss his defense.

I mean, if you're going to go all "me against the world of beno-haters", at least get your facts straight.

PS: It's also because it's natural to appreciate something more only when it's gone. If you don't know that then you're clearly not very familiar with life.
