Help Sacramento Keep The Kings

I was reading about the Sonics. And it seems like they waited a very long time before deciding how much they really want to keep their NBA team. I think we should start the process of saving the kings for Sacramento before it gets beyond the 11th hour. If the fans are cognizant of the issues surrounding the plans to keep the kings in Sacramento, we would be able to discuss what it takes on our part to make this happen. Like the Sonics, Grizzles, Hornets and Bobcats, the Kings are movable. I fear it to be true, therefor it must be.

You can worry about a satellite falling from the sky and crushing your skull, too.

Right now, arena discussions are still going on behind clsoed doors - which is actually the best place for them to be. Rumors have been floating around (and no, I don't have a link) to indicate things are, in fact, progressing.

If people want to ensure the Kings remain in Sacramento, the most obvious thing to do is buy tickets and attend the games. Other than that, it would be mere conjecture at this point to try and figure out what might happen IF the arena deal doesn't come to fruition. These things take time and what happened in Seattle isn't necessarily going to happen here.

For one thing, Sacramento is a one-sport town. Seattle isn't.

"I fear it to be true, therefor it must be" sounds like the ultimate confirmation of paranoia to me.

The only thing I can add is there's a progress report on the Cal Expo Arena plan scheduled for sometime "this Spring." Since Spring has now sprung it could come as they say any day now or I suppose any day up until the solstice on June 21. As you point out, every thing is behind closed doors somewhere in California with former Gov. Pete Wilson apparently directing the discussions, negotiations, deal cutting - whatever emerges.

What if i can't buy tickets more than once or twice per season, let alone drive with someone who wants to buy tickets??? What suggested options are available for the most common kings fan, the one that watches from home? I want to help, where do i start digging?(New Arena reference)

You could purchase something from the team store thats less expensive then a ticket to a game.

The fan base does need to support the team financially as much as they can. As pointed out, even a smmll purchase from the team store is better than nothing.

I would send an e-mail to MSE periodically to keep reminding them how much you want the team to stay in Sacramento and what the team being here means to you as a fan.

This is a tough time in a lot of ways for our favorite NBA team and the Maloofs and I'm sure they'd like to know how you feel. With such poor attendence, they must wonder sometimes if the fans still care much.

Maybe they have some ideas on how we could help, too. I've sent e-mails, but maybe I'll send another today.

Send an e-mail periodically to the league office and Mr. Stern telling them, too, what it means to you to have the Kings here.

If you are so inclined send and e-mail to the newpaper, call a radio show, whatever.

You could also write to the city council, county supervisors, Chamber of Commerce, the Cal Expo Authority, etc.

Maybe we could create some kind of online petition that could be sent to some of the above organizations? I don't know how that could be done, myself.

Of course, the real issue is money. It's not likely we can impact the amount needed in any really noticeable way, although I've often though a fund set up for fans donations (of any amount) could express how serious we are. Maybe something like buying the right to have your name in the pavement of a plaza outside the arena or the exterior wall? Obviously, considering the total cost this is likely to be a drop in the bucket, but it's about showing support.

Yeah, buying a brick (or whatever) with your name on it was discussed here before.

Say there are 11,000 bricks sold to pave the walkway leading to the arena, each would be stamped with the name of the donor, and separated based on the range of the donation given.

You could have:
5,000 at $150 = $750,000
3,000 at $250 = $750,000
2,000 at $500 = $1,000,000
500 at $1,000 = $500,000
250 at $2,000 = $500,000
and 250 at $4,000 = $1,000,000

for a total of $4,500,000. Just for paving an area with bricks.

Or you could figure out whatever numbers pencil out financially and demand-wise. I'd shell out $150 for my name on the brick at the new arena for the next 20 years.....

Great idea.

Maybe, when the arena is up they can dedicate a wall to all the people that gave to the fund. Like, you give this amount and you just get your name up on the wall, you give more and you get a 4 x 6 plack (of course that would be for a lot), etc...

Sorry, did some of the math in my head and some on the HP calculator and forgot to add the two together before I started typing. It is 4.5 mil, not 3 mil, FWIW. :eek:

Every one would have to realize that it wouldn't be a tax-deductible donation, as it wouldn't be going to a non-profit. It would just be for a show of civic pride and support for the team. :)

If it is going to improve the state fair grounds would it not be tax deductible? Seems kind of like helping build a library.

I think this is a great idea...i would happily pay $150 to have my name on a brick as well. And im sure we aren't the only ones.
