Hedo Turkoglu

He has 31 points off the bench over the Wizards!

Damn, missing Hedo and disliking Pedja now really bugs me. Glad Hedo is doing a great job there. DC, please make Hedo an all-star player there........ :)

He is my 6th Man of the Year.....

Good for Hedo. It's funny how Ex Kings generally go on to play some of their best ball after leaving the team. Hedo, JJ, Damon Jones and even our towel waiver R Buford. I guess they really learn something while being on the Kings even if they were sitting.

That's good for Hedo. :) Keep it up.

Sorry, don't really follow the Magics much, but why was Hedo coming off the bench? I thought he was Starting since Cat left?

Tonight they decided to stick Doug into the starting lineup and send Hedo back to 6th man status, I guess they wanted Doug to get in several practices and some game time before they had him out there running with the first unit. Hedo took 18 shots in 28 minutes. That's a good thing, a very good thing for Hedo. I always felt like he needed to look for his shot as much as possible, but didn't seem to realize it, when he was in Sacramento.

DC gets traded to Orlando, and promptly sends Hedo back to non-starter status. Still, Hedo had a great game off the bench, pouring in 30+ points on 12 - 18 shooting. Now that's efficient.

you should probably get your facts right. hedo was the sixth-man before the trade. they tried him in the starting lineup till christie would be ready to take over. but hedo played a few games more than anticipated as he was on a roll in the first few games. in the last two, he slacked off defensively and taken back to his usual sixth-man role. and that is mainly because without hedo coming from the bench, the magic have absolutely no fire-power in the second unit (christie somehow does not strike me as an offensive juggernaut ;)). also because the magic's first unit is awful defensively and that is where dc is expected to have an impact.

Iv watched alot of Magics game... he shoots it a streak iv never seen him shoot before.. one game he goes for 5-7 points , next game 25-30 points, then back to 5-7 points... its wierd... most magic fans are tired of this and want Christie to start..

Some of the press I read after the Mobley trade proclaimed that part of the reason for trading Mobley was to get Hedo more minutes. How does that work if the Magic also had in mind that DC would basically step right in as the starter and play 30 to 35+ minutes per game? Just curious.

I'll agree that the Magic bench doesn't have much firepower coming off of it if Hedo starts (other than the gunning Pat Garrity), but it would seem that if he can put his game together and focus on playing on both sides of the floor that the Magic would be happy to reward him with more playing time, and even a starting spot at the SG.

Edit: Hedo followed a similar pattern in going for a much smaller output in the second game in a row against the Wiz, taking less than ten shots, playing minutes in the low 20s, and a low point total.

you are right; one of the major reasons for the mobley trade was giving more playing time for hedo. however, more playing time does not invariably imply starting. the idea is still to let hedo come off the bench, but this time have him take more shots and play for a longer period of time. so, no contradiction there.

for hedo's inconsistency, that is becoming less of an issue as the season wears on. he is still inconsistent but not as much as he used to be. he had 3 games in a row where he scored 20+ points, for instance; that is something that was inconceivable before. actually, he is rather consistent: his field goal percentage and drive are much higher in home games, he pretty much sucks in away games.

This is pretty much the same thing Hedo did last year and then he went in the tank.
yep....
Nope.

Hedo is consistently scoring, shooting a good percentage, rebounding and playing defense. His problem throughout his career has been consistency, and midway through the season, he's been pretty consistent. Whether coming off the bench or starting, he's been a solid player for Orlando. He's actually shooting better off the bench, which is a testament to his growth and maturity as a player.

My point was that midway through the season last year he was doing great for San Antonio and then he fell off the map and was horrid in the playoffs.....Especially his big donut hole in game 7 against the Lakers.

My Bad,

I forgot that those choking Spurs were up 2-0 and then proceeded to lose 4 straight. How come that never makes any of those "biggest chokes of the century" shows. They always show the Kings and game 7 but at least the Kings were competitive.

He was playing okay for the Spurs. He had some good games and some bad games, but his main problem was the same as it's always been - consistency.

This season, he's been consistently solid. Just like any other player, he has good games and bad games, but he has more solid games than anything else. His season averages are indicative of what you should expect from him in every game, not of the median between his highs and his lows.

And what's more, he's playing hard every night. He's not taking plays off on defense, standing around on offense, missing assignments on the boards, etc. He's doing the little things that contribute to his team's success. Setting picks, rotating on defense, staying in front of his man, and more. There is a big difference between the way he was playing for San Antonio and the way he is playing for the Magic.
