Mavericks sign G Harris to contract extension
September 22, 2007

DALLAS (Ticker) - The Dallas Mavericks on Saturday signed guard Devin Harris to a contract extension.

Terms were not disclosed, but the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported September 13 that Harris had agreed to a five-year, $50 million deal.

The fifth pick in 2004 draft who was acquired from Washington in a draft-day deal, Harris has steadily improved over his three seasons, raising his scoring average up from 5.5 in his rookie season.

The 6-3 Harris, who will form one of the smallest backcourts along with the 6-2 Jason Terry, is aiming to provide a bigger role for Dallas' upcoming season.

Again kind of puts Kevin's 5yr $55 in perspective. This kid averaged 10ppg last year. PG is a more important position than OG, but he's still got to get up around 16 and 6 or so before you cna even consider that kind of money reasonable, let alone a deal.

Craziness! He's making more money than Jason Terry! This also makes Gerald Wallace's deal with the Bobcats look like even more of a bargain.

Hmm...cbs is now reporting that the number might be $42 milion rather than $50, whihc is more reasonable. Still way above his production thus far, but more achievable.
