Don't Make Me Use The Bat

Peja ( B ) -- kind of a shrug of a game. Scored, but not really terribly involved or inspired for the most part. Came out, did his thing against vastly inferior opposition, and got to take the rest of the night off. Was inconsitent and missed some gimmes inside, but when he did score it looked pretty effortless. Tonight it was enough. Unlike his last starring role against a terrible team (Bobcats) did not step up the rebounding tonight, and in fact came up with just 2 again.
Songaila ( B+ ) -- hustled and worked from the start in this one. At times displayed his white man's disease inside and had a hard time finishing, and if he and Mugsy Bogues played each other, Mugsy would be more likely to block Darius's shot than the other way around. But worked hard, and especially in the second half came out and started being active on defense, relying on quick hands to get steals rather than failing to block shots. Rebounding consistently now, which we need badly of course.
Miller ( B+ ) -- good overall game by Brad, although truthfully it did not feel as good as the numbers. Just did a little of everything. Actually quite a bit of everything. Had some early defensive problems with PJ Brown of all people, and still is passing up shots he should be taking. But with no Webb tonight just provided the all around game we needed and was very efficient.
Christie ( B ) -- was active and got his hands on a lot of balls, but was also sloppy and careless at times. Had no problem slowing down David Wesley tonight, and did a nice job again with his passing. Certainly not a huge game, but just an easy well rounded one.
Bibby ( B+ ) -- shot looked really good tonight, and had a number of good passes as well. Started off shaky on defense vs. Dan Dickau of all people, but settled in thereafter. Given his normal 35 mnutes and a similar performance against a quality opponent, this would probably have been an A- type performance.
Jackson ( B- ) -- played a poor 2nd quarter when it still kind of mattered. forced up quick shots, which he missed. But was fairly active on defense. Got the long extended run from the late third onward as the game was over, and was strong against the scrubs.
Ostertag ( A ) -- the big lug proving he's more than just a lug. For the third or fourth time this season was perhaps THE key player of the game. He came ion, and the whole flavor of the game changed. Awful team defense in the first quarter suddenly picked up dramatically with big Tag to cover the middle. And he again showed that he has a lot more skill than he was ever able to show in Utah -- made a whole series of excellent passes (and one awful one). Kept on blocking, running, and competing for his entire stint. Was very active, and eventually fouled out. But it was a "good" foulout if there was such a thing -- fouled out just because he was so active and aggressive. Never gave the Hornets an inch.
Barnes ( D+ ) -- and so the slump continues. And when Matt is off he just looks terrible. can't hit a shot, careless turnovers, ouot of rhtyhm and clearly frustrated with himself. Has to be vey careful here or he's actually going to play himself right out of the rotation (or spot player duty as it may be).
Evans ( B+ ) -- nice extended garbagetime performance. Forced up a few too many shots, but had some nice makes and made a number of athletic plays on both sides of the ball
Daniels ( B ) -- numbers may not tell it, but thought he had a nice well rounded run in garbagetime. Played good defense, set up his temmates with passes.

Adelman ( A- ) -- the only real complaint tonight was the first quarter, where the team again came out and laid an egg on defense. But therafter we played a nice bounce back game after the Lakers debacle, and just squished a terrible team the way we should, even without Webb. Went to the deep bench early, which was nice. Was wondering why no KMart, but the box score lists him as out with the flu, so guess that explains that.

Ostertag=A

Basketball is a game of momentum, not just on the offensive end but the defensive end as well. He set the tone on D and the entire team game lifted from that moment on.

And how bout that Evans. Athletic freak!

im glad he is finally putting his critics to rest. i think he was a great acquisition for us. he deserves the credit he gets from us on the boards and any other positives anywhere else.

Hello? Some of you are acting as though it's a big surprise that Tag is doing EXACTLY what we got him to do...

A majority of the members on this board were happy with the acquisition. I don't know where you guys have been reading, but with a few reservations, most Kingsfans.com members were satisfied (albeit perhaps just a tad hesitant) with Petrie getting Tag to sign with us.

My team grade for tonight: A

I liked what I saw from Pedja, who seemed to be in perpetual motion. I liked seeing Bibby make some sweet shots. I especially liked seeing a Giant Sequoia growing right there in the middle of the paint in the middle of Arco! This was a redemption game - where the team came out and showed that they do remember the fundamentals and how to play the game.

Now, all they have to do is remember that against the Wizards.

Adelman has a tough job ahead of him, IMHO. He has to find exactly the right balance to make the most of Webber, Miller, Darius AND Tag. It should be interesting.

i know everyone likes his aquisition on THIS board. im talkin about in other places sorry i did not say that. once and a while check the espn messageboards but they just annoy me half the time and have alot of people with backward things to say. so i usually go to see if all the tag haters have finally gone away. yes he has done exactly what we wanted him to to a gree with you on that.

Too bad the old threads from the summer are gone. LOTS of folks complaining about Tag, and plenty of Yahoos who some how thaought the Kings either choose him over Vlade or outright traded for him... funny if either scenario even were true... it would make GP look even smarter. ;)

We do have Laker fan members. It's just that our board is run a little differently than most other message boards. It seems to be working...

Welcome and enjoy your stay! Find a good seat, settle in and get ready for another great ride!

Ditto. There were only a handful of us that predicted Tag would fit nicely. In fact, some Kingsfans never thought much of Songaila either when he came on board. Ostertag, Songaila, Bobby, and the rest remind me of the old Bench Mob. Only, I think these new guys may be better.

Did everyone notice that the deep bench guys actually passed the ball and played some D! Remember when our scrubs would run down the court and throw up threes? Remember Derek Martin? I must admit that I did enjoy the demonstrative slam dunks, despite the show business nature of it. We need guys that can jump and stuff like that.

Oh...

I just remember, I guess, that I was happy about his acquisition, as were Kingsgurl, 6th and some of the other people whose takes I generally agree with.

Oops.

Great game for O'tag. I think that that Evans played really well too. Seemed like Adelmen really wanted to give him a chance. I thought a few plays were drawn for him as soon as he came in. Bibby was shooting really well too.
Good job by the whole team.

The Taginator was awesome.... In a Tag kind of way....

Pretty sucky grades for a 36pt blowout brick..lol;) But I agre with them anyway.
Actually, they aren't sucky at all considering the team we played against last night. Now, if we beaten a team over .500 by 36 points, then I would have to agree with you.
