Peja ( B ) -- kind of a shrug of a game. Scored, but not really terribly involved or inspired for the most part. Came out, did his thing against vastly inferior opposition, and got to take the rest of the night off. Was inconsitent and missed some gimmes inside, but when he did score it looked pretty effortless. Tonight it was enough. Unlike his last starring role against a terrible team (Bobcats) did not step up the rebounding tonight, and in fact came up with just 2 again.
Songaila ( B+ ) -- hustled and worked from the start in this one. At times displayed his white man's disease inside and had a hard time finishing, and if he and Mugsy Bogues played each other, Mugsy would be more likely to block Darius's shot than the other way around. But worked hard, and especially in the second half came out and started being active on defense, relying on quick hands to get steals rather than failing to block shots. Rebounding consistently now, which we need badly of course.
Miller ( B+ ) -- good overall game by Brad, although truthfully it did not feel as good as the numbers. Just did a little of everything. Actually quite a bit of everything. Had some early defensive problems with PJ Brown of all people, and still is passing up shots he should be taking. But with no Webb tonight just provided the all around game we needed and was very efficient.
Christie ( B ) -- was active and got his hands on a lot of balls, but was also sloppy and careless at times. Had no problem slowing down David Wesley tonight, and did a nice job again with his passing. Certainly not a huge game, but just an easy well rounded one.
Bibby ( B+ ) -- shot looked really good tonight, and had a number of good passes as well. Started off shaky on defense vs. Dan Dickau of all people, but settled in thereafter. Given his normal 35 mnutes and a similar performance against a quality opponent, this would probably have been an A- type performance.
Jackson ( B- ) -- played a poor 2nd quarter when it still kind of mattered. forced up quick shots, which he missed. But was fairly active on defense. Got the long extended run from the late third onward as the game was over, and was strong against the scrubs.
Ostertag ( A ) -- the big lug proving he's more than just a lug. For the third or fourth time this season was perhaps THE key player of the game. He came ion, and the whole flavor of the game changed. Awful team defense in the first quarter suddenly picked up dramatically with big Tag to cover the middle. And he again showed that he has a lot more skill than he was ever able to show in Utah -- made a whole series of excellent passes (and one awful one). Kept on blocking, running, and competing for his entire stint. Was very active, and eventually fouled out. But it was a "good" foulout if there was such a thing -- fouled out just because he was so active and aggressive. Never gave the Hornets an inch.
Barnes ( D+ ) -- and so the slump continues. And when Matt is off he just looks terrible. can't hit a shot, careless turnovers, ouot of rhtyhm and clearly frustrated with himself. Has to be vey careful here or he's actually going to play himself right out of the rotation (or spot player duty as it may be).
Evans ( B+ ) -- nice extended garbagetime performance. Forced up a few too many shots, but had some nice makes and made a number of athletic plays on both sides of the ball
Daniels ( B ) -- numbers may not tell it, but thought he had a nice well rounded run in garbagetime. Played good defense, set up his temmates with passes.
Adelman ( A- ) -- the only real complaint tonight was the first quarter, where the team again came out and laid an egg on defense. But therafter we played a nice bounce back game after the Lakers debacle, and just squished a terrible team the way we should, even without Webb. Went to the deep bench early, which was nice. Was wondering why no KMart, but the box score lists him as out with the flu, so guess that explains that.
