Gordon and Villanueva to the Pistons

The Detroit Pistons made the biggest early splash in free agency on Wednesday, agreeing to terms with Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva.



Former Bulls guard Gordon will receive a five-year deal for between $55 million and $60 million, while former Bucks forward Villanueva gets a five-year deal for $40 million, sources told ESPN.com's Chris Broussard.

Madness, complete and utter madness. There is no way that this is going to work out for the Pistons. The team they now have -still without a coach, apparently- is not going anywhere and they have pretty massive committed salary in players that I wouldn't deem worthy of those salaries. I mean, does Gordon share the backcourt with Hamilton or have they just paid $55 million for a backup? And Villanueva? Really?

Hamilton will be shopped.

Gordon's contract is not extravagant. A bit of a market price that scorers and does nothing else. Martin signed a similar deal to Gordon. Its a reasonable deal.

Charlie is a good player but I am not sure he is a good fit there.

they will end up trading hamilton, they are going young. lets see how fast they rebuild their team.

If they want to shop Hamilton, and yes that's to be expected. The extension they gave him last season makes not much sense. And yes, they've gone young, but I'm not convinced they actually got much upside out of the whole thing and they're now doomed to bad defense for a long time. Moreover, they've now spent all their capspace, even though it could've been used much better, I think.

They would have been much better trying to sign Millsap instead of Charlie. But Gordon signing is not too bad. Not great but reasonable.
