Golden 1 Center Construction

Was able to finally get myself out to the check out the construction site yesterday, from all possible viewing-friendly angles.....Boy is that bad boy starting to look mighty nice out there!!!!!!! Looking at it from the front of the arena (where the main entrance, or only entrance, will be), gave me the best view of what's going on, as I was also able to see all the construction that's going on in what will be the interior of the arena. What was interesting to me, and quite surprising as well, was that the area where the hotel is supposed to be going up is actually located right next to the arena itself, and that currently is empty, and all you see is some dirt on the ground, and construction trucks carrying some of the material for the arena. I didn't realize that the hotel was going to be built so close to the arena??????? I also found the side panel for the practice facility (that they have been putting up for a while now) to be interesting, as I thought the exterior was all going to have the same side panels (steel), both for the actual arena section, as well as surrounding the practice facility. I didn't realize, until I got back home and saw the renderings of the arena and practice facility, that both are going to be different (the practice facility side panels are glass I believe, and it actually looks a little weird out there the way it is right now). I hope that changes once the rest of the arena goes up, and it blends in well with the arena.

Speaking of the side panels, I actually was skeptical about the design when I first saw the renderings, and thought to myself that the arena was gonna look funky as ever but, after going around the site yesterday and looking at the construction, I now think it will look pretty awesome when it's all said and done!!!!!

Overall, it's all coming along nicely, and there is certainly a lot going on there, so if anyone wants to head down to check it out, now would be a good time.

I'm standing in an office building admiring the view of G1 as I write this. I agree with many of your observations. I too was surprised when the side panels of the practice facility first went up. The renderings look much "shinier" than they do in real life. But you are right, it looks like the practice facility panels are slightly more "matte" than the arena itself. It will be interesting to see how the actual arena panels look.

I also agree on the hotel front (of which we've heard very little recently. An optimist would say they need the room for arena construction first, but another side of me wonders if they've bitten off a little too much...). I think in general there's not enough public "gathering space" around the arena, and I hope when the hotel does come in, it doesn't cramp things too much. Then again, the idea is not to have a separate gathering space as part of the arena, but to have it seamlessly fit in, with the rest of downtown (especially K street, i imagine) serving that purpose.

All that said, it's incredibly exciting to see it taking shape. Especially after all we kings fans have been through.

We had our season ticket walk through and 'fan experience' today. We got to sit in the seats, touch the materials, watch a video in a replica suite. Amazing. We talked about the entrance opening, which has been something that existed as an idea in my mind from previous writings and renderings. It is even better than I imagined, now that I see it in 3d. The seats are amazing. I need another adjective. A great deal of detail has gone into the experience, anyone who attends a Kings game in the future here will feel that. The texture of the materials on the seats (padded!) This is going to be an expreience beyond anything we are used to, or that anyone is used to,

cool how did you score that? My rep hasn't reached out about a "fan experience" or "walk through" yet.

Some pictures from the XC taken a year ago along with a video they show at the XC...

Yea jerk. Where's the pics?

Cut me some slack, I just came off an overnight shift and my phone was dead. They showed us the new super cool, power charging stations where you can just lay your phone on the bar to charge as you enjoy a refreshing beverage..... alas, neither of those was actually operational....... I exited with only water and a still dead phone......... the possibilities are endless though
