Giants Manager Situation

Would you hire Joe Girardi to manage the Giants if you were Brian Sabean?

Girardi did a great job with young players last year in Florida. The Giants have already stated that they want to go towards youth next year. According to the media, Girardi did not have a good relationship with the GM of the Marlins. He doesn't seem like a bad guy, so I would give him an interview.

Girardi for sure.

There is no way the Marlins should have come anywhere near .500 this season, and look what he did to them.

He'd be my choice.

Now that Dusty Baker has left the Cubs, don't be suprised if Girardi is in the running for the Cubs' manager job as well.

IIRC, Girardi also played for the Cubs (as a catcher) years ago during the late 80's/early 90's.

Good point, but if you were Girardi who would you rather coach? I hope he would say Giants. Plus the bay area is a great place to live/raise kids.

hmmm he might be a good fit

i hear they are going after the angels pitching coach bud black.

personall i want brenly to come home!

What would you guys think if they could get Joe Torre to come across country?

If he would accept the job I'd go for it, but does anyone think he'd go from the perenial contender Yankees to...The Giants?

That was the first thing that popped into my head when I heard Torre was axed. He might come here if the price was right but I don't think we'd offer it to him. He seems like he's an "east coast guy" too. I don't know diddly jack though.

I don't like it. He couldn't win with 200 mil in players. I'd rather have a young buck who is fired up and can lead our young talent.

I hope Cubs get Girardi or Brenly. Brenly would actually be my first choice. Giants can have whoever Cubs don't pick :)

Torre's a "manager" in every sense of the word. He's not a rebuilding sort of guy, which is why he was such a great fit in NY. I agree with most who say Girardi would be a good choice, but I don't think the Giants have a farm system comparable to most in the majors right now anyway.

The Giants haven't had a great farm system traditionally. But we do have some great young talent as of today so they need the right manager to guide them IMO.

Girardi spent most of the day today in Chicago interviewing with Jim Hendry.

He is my pick for the Giants, but as a long time Cubs fan, I'm okay with the Cubs getting him.

The Giants will probably wait until the top managerial prospects have filled positions on other teams. I certainly hope not. :(

Joe Torre will remain the Yankees' manager, so now there's speculation that Lou Piniella might get the Giants' job.

Lou has already said that he spoke with Brian Sabean and that he knows him from his days when both were with the Yankees, when Lou played for NY and Sabean was in the front office there. But I guess there will be no "official" interviews or talks until after the World Series is over.

Ron Wotus, the longtime Giants' coach is a major contender for the managerial job. But I would prefer ex-Giant player Bob Brenly to be the next manager. Bob has had managerial experience and guided the Arizona Diamondbacks team to a World Series Championship in 2001.
