game on sunday

Yeah... god forbid that *we* get to sleep at a decent hour... :p

I know *I* love it when I get to stay up until oh-dark-thirty for the finish of a Kings/Monarchs game, only to have to get up at four AM the next morning to go to work...

Well, it's on our home turf, so I think that it should be at our starting time. Besides, don't they know who I am?? :p

The problem I have with the starting time is that East Coast prime time is 9 to 11 with news at 11.....or so I have thought for years. That would be 6 to 8 here on the West Coast. Give me one good reason why (when we are hosting the game) we cannot have a 6 p.m. start time so that the fans can get to the game. Sorry, but this is just one more instance of East Coast favored over West Coast in the WNBA and that is just bull. The WNBA offices are in NY and everything is geared for them. I won't even get into the fact that the All-Star game has been held on the East Coast for several straight years. That is blatant favoritism for the East Coast. So, in this case, Mr. Slim, I, for one, am hating on the East Coast.

Are you freakin' kiddin' me????? They can't find a place in the West to have this thing EVER. They are trying to keep me from coming to one, I'm really getting the sense of that.

Guess what? Next year's All-Star Game may very well be in N.Y again! Three's a charm!

Make that four times! (If you want to count the '04 All-Stars vs. the USA Basketball Game special which took place at the Radio City Music Hall)

Actually, I heard that rumor too. I check up on other WNBA-related boards and the word is that with the WNBA celebrating its 10th season next year, they want next year's All-Star Game in an inaugural city. That is, in one of the original 1997 WNBA franchise cities. New York is certainly one of them. But so is Sacramento, Houston, and Los Angeles. All of those original WNBA cities certainly does deserve to host an ASG!

Personally speaking, I think the WNBA is trying to come up with an excuse to justify having next year's ASG in New York again.

And if it is true, I'm gonna barf. :(

Yeah and HOUSTON & L.A...have the most Wnba championships!

It's just another $$$ saving issue ...all the offices are on the East coast.

Maybe they polled the players....they like shopping in N.Y!

Too bad the WEST deserves it. How many times has the West won this game?

All I beleive.....hum.

didn't Detroit win it last year?

the championship I mean. :o

To KingsFan54: No, NothinButHoops was referring to the WNBA All-Star Game. So far, the WNBA East Conference has never won it, despite having all that so-called "home-court advantage".

The Detroit Shock (an Eastern Conference team) won the WNBA Finals in 2003. Seattle won it last year.

Detroit won year before last. Last year was Seattle. Yes, the East has one championship and the West has seven. However, the All-Star game has been won (every year) by the West.

Edit: Steven, you beat me to the draw. :p

One little footnote: the Houston Comets used to be in the Eastern Conference in their first (and possibly their second) year in the WNBA. Then they switched over the Western Conference. To my knowledge, the Comets are the only WNBA team to transfer from one regional conference to another.

Thanks everyone for clearing up my post. Yes your right Houston was listed as a East team one year. Wasn't that when they beat out Cherlyl Miller's Mercury? Phoniex had that game untill...Cynthia Cooper took the game over. They rallied back for the win. I remember feeling bad for Jennifer Gilliom.

That was one of my first basketball games watched after I became a new fan, so I remember it well. I wanted the Merc to win so bad, just because they had so much heart. And because I was so new to the game, I didn't know that in bball, players fouled on purpose sometimes as part of the game strategy. I couldn't figure out why the Merc players kept accidentally bumping the Comet players...:o

Last Sunday's crowd chanted, "BEAT THE SUN! BEAT THE SUN! BEAT THE SUN!"

Well, okay, it isn't the same thing as "BEAT L.A.! BEAT L.A.! BEAT L.A.!". But still... :D
