GILLETTE, Wyo. - A 10-year-old boy was rescued by firefighters after he got stuck in an infant's swing for nearly an hour in below-freezing temperatures.
Firefighters wrapped the boy, whose name was not released, in a fire department coat, packed heating packets around him and used bolt cutters to cut the swing's chains, Fire Capt. Dale Izatt said.
Still in the swing seat, the boy was taken to Campbell Memorial Hospital for treatment for possible hypothermia and to remove the seat, Izatt said. Izatt was not available Tuesday evening, and the fire department had no information on the boy's condition.
The boy's 14-year-old friend said just after the rescue Monday evening that they were playing at an apartment complex's outside playground when one of them thought it would be funny if the 10-year-old could squeeze into the swing.
The 10-year-old, who was wearing jeans and a light jacket, got all the way into the seat with the help of his friend but couldn't get out. Efforts by the boys and other kids in the neighborhood failed, so they called police.
The 14-year-old estimates his friend had been stuck in the cold for 40 minutes to an hour.
