Bench
The day Webber came, I hated his ignorant comments against the Kings. The same can be said of this past summer's comments about the "tough guys" on the team. Between those two points, I went on a rollercoaster, thru the season, into the playoffs, smack into another letdown...
A chain of these set up some weird emotions inside me. There were times when I couldn't love C-Webb more. There were also times when I couldn't believe what he just said, or couldn't believe he was being so selfish with the ball, or couldn't believe he let us down like that. Obviously, I had my doubts about other players, but he was usually the one I lay all of my unsettled feelings on.
I think I now see that was because he was always taking responsibility of this team, striving, driving, running toward a championship coming to Sacramento and the beloved Arco. With each high and low, my feelings and every day life went with them.
Even though I've only experienced 16 years of life, and obviously there are many people on this board and throughout Sacramento who remember the hard times in Kings history. Those days are faint to me, yet, I get the feeling of understanding of them. With respect to the people who truly know how it is to have the lows, and not just the highs, I'd like to say part of the Kings and my sport's heart left with 3 figures... CW4.
The high was obviously the 2001-2002 season. Playing amazing offense and stellar defense, we had the largest margin between points scored and points against in the league. Riding the wave, the Kings entered the playoffs. From beating the Jazz to winning out in Dallas, nothing compared to the Western Conference Finals. Even now, I know I don't remember it all. I blacked a lot of it out. That was a cause of the latter lows. With Bibby on the rise, Vlade distributing like no other, Bobby J being the high-octane spark and all-around effort, DC doing all the little things, but always a consistant road block to the basket, C-Webb playing the best basketball of his life, in an unexplainable way. Even though Peja was hurt, he was there with us, in heart. Guiding Hedo (Hedo, HE DO!) to play his best. Through the hard fouls, late shots, and major drama, they tryed their hardest.
The low must be now. With Vlade leaving over the summer, Peja doing the worst of any of his campaigns in the NBA, Bobby J injured yet again, Christie shipped off to Orlando (although I do enjoy Mobley...). And now...Webbs gone.
With Webbs early summer court predicament and late summer comments, I believed I entered the season with him under my "Hate" column. Since then, he has given me every reason not to do just that. I never, even back sine 2000, thought I would be this heartstruck from losing him. It hurts even more not understanding the trade, but we can only hope Petrie knows best. We can also only hope Webber can finish his career with success and dignity. Good Luck Chris...
The only top-6 player who is left is Bibby. Granted, Brad Miller isn't too shabby himself. But Bibby, this is your time to shine. Be the king of Kings Mike.
(maybe this is too long, but il post it anyway...cuz its how i feel... and maybe some ppl will agree...i can only hope)
