Free agency mega thread 2025 edition!

Because Scott doesn’t see Monk as part of the core moving forward and allegedly there are no suitors for Monk’s services. I’m guessing he sees this as a way to fill the point guard position, free up playing time for guards and open up the midlevel exception to either sign a player at a different position and clean the books up for a cleaning of house after next season.

Giving away a 27 year old with 6MotY potential on a solid deal for Denis Schroeder should get Scott Perry fired.

Barling seems to be priming us to lose Malik for…Denis Schroder and maybe a throwaway piece

And he’s doing so by severely downplaying Malik

they seemed to know people are going to be pissed that our “free agent signing” is looking very likely to not be a free agent signing so much as the return for not only a fan favorite, but a better player

we’ll see but dark forebodings

If they just move Monk it does fit a 2027 rebuild option so that's good. I saw a blurb that the Kings were offered Kobe Bufkin and Georges Niang. Yeah, Schroder is > that package at least lol. Although getting a young player would be preferred by me. Ah well.

Yeah, Malik just doesn't fit. That was the Fox team design and when he got a chance to be the replacement the mix was off.

It doesn’t feel good to trade away a talent like that, especially as a fan favorite who loves Sac. Having said that, Deebo, Val, Russ would all come off the books after next season. Lavine is on an ender, if he preforms well maybe you offer him a reasonable extension, if not he could be traded easier at that point. Full year to see what you have with the rest of the younger guys.

This is really showing the value of non defending smaller combo G's right now. Stay away! And from what it looks like the Kings might have indeed made a mistake just jumping the gun on Monk in FA so they were likely stuck with that deal into 2027. No other team apparently valued him at that amount from the looks of it.

Trading Monk and losing team control of Keon to acquire Dennis and Russ is truly peak Kings.

Didn't expect much different when we let the only adult in the room, go

I don’t think that is what this is. If we trade Monk’s 18.7 salary and we bring in Russ/Dennis that is likely a salary wash. If we declined and signed Keon to the NAW contract we would still be under the first apron.

Matt George said Perry is talking deals that no one has even considered. Who knows what those are and if they will be happen but they must be exploring something.

Agree- the Jazz just bought out Jordan Clarkson because no one would trade for him, and he is expected to sign with the Knicks for the minimum. I would rather have Monk than Clarkson, but the differences between the two, in terms of skills set, are not so vast that one would have a significantly higher trade value or market.

Malik is and has been one of my favourite Kings, love his personality and the fact he loves being in Sac..which in itself, is pretty important to any "culture building"

We've made his role on the team cluttered and awkward, will be a sad if he does get pushed out for a stop gap in Schroeder

We better be getting something else in return. I defended the front office saying it likely wouldn't be a straight swap. If it is then we are getting fleeced.

Barring a first what can we possibly get to justify this nonsense. Schroeder is a downgrade and monk is on a great contract why would you do that swap. I could get it if we got that scrub Schroeder than traded monk for Barrett or PJ Washington

Clifford barefoot is not 6’6.5.
NBA players play basketball in shoes. NBA heights are listed in shoes. The reason the combine lists heights barefoot is because dudes would show up in high heels to make their measurements look good. The average basketball shoe, as worn by NBA players in NBA games adds 1.25 inches. So add 1.25 inches to a player's combine barefoot height and that's his NBA list.

They could show up in flops, like Whiteside.

Good to know. I will keep this in mind next time I comment on combine height measurements and playing position. To reduce replication of effort and demonstrate an ability to listen, IT WOULD BE GREAT IF WE COULD ALL COMMIT TO DOING THIS :)

Monk for PJ Washington was always a pipe dream. Just because Kevin Pelton says he would do it doesn't mean Dallas would...

Similar pipedream - get back Ron Holland with Schroeder!

Ya I knew it was a dream that’s why I would’ve been ok with Barrett or here’s a wild idea just keeping monk and starting carter

We don't have room for Monk, LaVine and Deebo but of those 3, Monk has the most likeable personality and is well matched to his 6th man role. So not keen on the rumours.
The issue is that the Kings gave Malik a taste of the starter fruit last season and there was no chance of ever really having him go back to being a sixth man at least here in Sacramento.

To be fair, 99.9% of the people on these forums generally understand that people wear shoes when they play basketball.

Sure and funny enough they all were shoes. So the heights are all relatively the same if you are consistent in your measurements.

DeMar is the same height with and without shoes.

Give us a lotto protected pick Detroit probably going to be picking in the 20s assuming they stay relatively healthy and add Monk plus the other guys they've poached.
